I love all the broken clock mfs in here. I’ll concede that everyone, including myself, thought he (and trump) were too old to be running because they’re both mentally declining in different ways.

We didn’t know of any obvious major health issues with Biden. He had a shit debate and everyone suddenly acts like they knew something was wrong other than just getting old, being propped up on cold meds or whatever the official excuse was. Prostate cancer doesn’t cause these symptoms.

That said, the big question would be whether or not it was known he had cancer and was getting treatment for it, the effects of treatment certainly would be hard on someone mentally, their mental capabilities, and physically. Hiding that shit and running him for office again would be fucked up.

Obviously being old and in mental decline is not something people have issues with. Look at your current president.

Sure, no one would have known about the prostate cancer, but plenty of people had been questioning Biden’s mental fitness since 2020, and they were called ageist by pundits. Stewart himself was accused of aiding Trump for running a segment on Biden’s strange mental gaffes just weeks before the debate. If people like Tapper had been doing their jobs instead of deferring to the administration, we would have had answers, not questions.

Yep, I strongly remember being called a useful idiot for wanting a better canidate than Biden after the horrid debate performance, with every time being deflected to “But did you see Trump?? Clearly Biden can stop him now!!”

If Jon fucking Stewart was called ageist and a Russian bot because he accurately saw that Biden was not doing too well, its no wonder people called other fellow humans that too. I’m not shocked Apollo is trying to lie by omission of “We didn’t know of any obvious major health issues with Biden” besides being in the most stressful job in America and being the oldest person in that poisition.

But instead Biden went on “full” steam ahead, only keeping to his one term promise when internal polling showing he’d lose to Trump by 400 EC votes.

First of all, there have been dozens of articles about Trump’s mental fitness. Second, Biden’s decline was sharper and more noticeable; that’s why, even though they both sounded like rambling old men during the debate, Biden came off worse. Finally, Trump’s mental fitness is usually people’s third concern behind his authoritarianism and corruption. Anyway, now that we’ve addressed that, it would be great if you could give a shit that Democratic party insiders hid the President’s cognitive decline from the country.

I mean, the whole point of “he is too old” Is because 80 it’s too old. It is wether or not anyone had secret knowledge of Biden’s decline. It was a correct assessment, and his debate was just validation of what was already known

It wasn’t just that. There was prior evidence because he made one appearance every two months under very controlled circumstances and even then he looked lost as shit, confused, wandering, and whenever he talked into a mic you only got thirty seconds of sense out of him before he’d ramble about nonsense.

What the whole Biden situation boils down to is this: At no point in history has a Presidential candidate ever been replaced as late in the campaign as the 2024 campaign was by the time people started seriously calling for Biden to step aside (i.e. after the debate.) The only close equivalent was in 1968, when Lyndon B. Johnson declined to run much earlier in the campaign, and it still resulted in a victory for Richard Nixon. Still, when confronted with a choice between fascism and not-fascism, many people (including many of the people in this very thread) decided to devote all their effort to throwing stones at the not-fascism side.

When Biden did finally step aside, surprise surprise, it resulted in a victory for fascism. Congratulations.

Biden had zero chance of winning even based on the more accurate polling that his campaign had. Polling, by the way, that he ignored for literally months that could have been spent shaping Kamala’s campaign or running a primary. The polling showed over 400 electoral votes to Trump and Biden in his infinite stubbornness only subscribed to people that stroked his ego (Joe Scarborough) and refused to step down until leaders like Nancy Pelosi started threatening him.

They wouldn’t have done a primary anyway because they knew Kamala (their chosen corporate candidate) would have gotten absolutely wrecked. She didn’t get a single delegate in the 2020 primaries.

Biden only dropped out because it was no longer feasible for him to win. He was perfectly willing to die in office knowing he was no longer fit for the job.

If he had made it clear he wouldn’t run at least the year before, we could have likely avoided another Trump term.

Biden staying in the race would have been 400 EC votes to Trump, a bigger margin than Harris v Trump did.

And even if Biden won, he has stage 4 prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, it would be a miracle even with top treatment if he lives to see the end of Trump’s current term.

There’s actually a somewhat brand new miracle treatment for cancer that uses individual atoms of actinium-225.

Each cancer cell gets a single atom, and then it dies when that atom decays. And since it’s an alpha decay, the cell gins some high energy helium. That’s it.

Well, the atomic nucleus of a helium-4 atom. Which then rips some electrons from whatever it collides with.

And then that happens a few times to produce bismuth-209, which has a halflife of 2x10^19 years. Which means it’s perfectly safe.

Anyway, this treatment, called targeted alpha therapy is specifically approved for Bone metastasized prostate cancer, and significantly improves survival rates vs placebo.

It’s not that good against solid tumors

This isn’t, “drama around Bidens declining health,” it’s another symptom of a sickness within the Democratic party. Ruth Bader Ginsberg refused to retire when Obama was in office, so her death gave Donald Trump another Supreme Court nomination. Dianne Feinstein would not leave office despite having severe dementia, and instead died during her term. Jerry Connolly was made Democratic Chair of the House Oversight Committee despite being diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He died yesterday, made him the third House Democrat to die in the last 2 months.

The Democratic Party is led by geriatrics who refuse to relinquish power even as they drop dead in office. We should drag every single person who knew about Biden’s failing mental state into the light and make sure they never work in politics again. We should demand to know if his cancer diagnosis was known before the election, and if not, why he didn’t receive a cancer screening for over a decade. We need accountability for the people who allowed the party to reach this state. And before 2026, we need to go to every single House and Senate Democrat over the age of 65 and say, “Thank you for your service, but you’re retiring now. Would you like to endorse anyone for your seat?”

Did you literally wake up from a coma the day Biden’s cancer diagnosis was announced or something? Or are you the rare person who isn’t part of Trump’s cult but also only watches right wing news sources?

“President Trump shits on Constitution in novel way!” could paraphrase a headline from literally any week this year after 1/20. And only after 1/20 because before then he was merely President-Elect Trump.

Beyond that, the news cycle is pretty short - for example, unless we have revelations about Trump sexually assaulting a woman we didn’t already know about or some movement in an existing court case, it’s not going to continue to be litigated in the news media because there’s nothing new to say.

          That’s an incredibly frustrating problem.

I have a fairly technical background. How technical? When you mention Black-Scholes to people you get a variety of responses.
Most people just say, “WTF are you talking about? Why doesn’t that guy just wipe his feet?”
Finance-curious people may have looked it up on Wikipedia.
Actual finance professionals may get excited and talk about, “the Greeks”.
I’m the kind of nerd who went through the entire derivation from fundamental concepts like the stochastic discount factor and then had to compare the calculated and observed convexity of utility functions to rediscover the equity premium puzzle.

Many Democrats are happy to listen to me shred the economic “theories” that Trump blathers on about and are very satisfied to see proofs that their numbers don’t actually work in real math. Many of those same people absolutely loose their shit at the implication that Democratic policies are anything less than perfect.

Don’t get me wrong. Trumps economic and foreign relations policies are absolute monkey turds and I’ll never get tired of throwing them in the toilet, where they belong. At the same time, hypocrisy doesn’t do Democrats any favors.

It goes far beyond conspiracy theories at this point: Most major media outlets and centralized social media platforms in the world are sanewashing the entire conservative bloc in America.

They’re literally copying Germany in the 1930s, with secret police, sending people to camp based on ethnicity(For all those who seem to not know: Dachau concentration camp was opened in 1933, thousands held there by 1934), etc. Elon Musk did a full blow, Hitler style Nazi salute on stage during the inaugration celebration, twice. And all the media, including pages like Snopes, are acting like “It’s impossible to tell what he actually meant”.

Front Burner just did a podcast about all of this and how is similar with Nazi Germany. Mostly helps that this isn’t an American news outlet (it’s Canadian, part of CBC) about how they honestly spoke about it (Trump can’t threaten to take away their broadcasting license)

Today on the show is historian Timothy Ryback. Timothy is an author and writer with The Atlantic. He’s the director of the Institute for Historical Justice and Reconciliation in The Hague. Last year he published ‘Takeover’ which documents the ways Hitler and his enablers in the German establishment cleared the pathway to Nazism through constitutional means. He’s on the show to discuss - what he refers to as the “disturbing echoes” between Nazi Germany and contemporary America. Particularly between Adolf Hitler and US President Donald Trump.

Pretty sure Stewart’s point is exactly that. They’re putting out a book now to have “content” instead of going after trump for the real content. Like Puppy-Killer Noem, his secretary of Homeland Security not knowing Habeas Corpus. or, blatantly stating the exact opposite before a congressional hearing.

the stuff in CNN’s book was news years ago- and they talked about it years ago, too. CNN is complicit

I think his point was more that politicians are just so used to coverups and lying that they do it even when it’s right in front of our faces. We could see for our own eyes that Biden was unfit to run, but were gaslit up until the debate when he stood down.

And the same things are all true of Trump; we can see with our own eyes how unqualified he is, but everyone insists on pretending otherwise.

Also, his monologues aren’t just “Republicans dumb”, they’re incredibly informative about how the systems are supposed to work. He sneaks in legitimate government literacy lessons. Jon is a genius of our time.

This is what every other comedian trying to be Jon… Even on the tonight show, doesn’t seem to have internalized.

Kinda horseshit. The Democratic Party needs to stop racing to the bottom and running candidates that are so bad they can only win against garbage like Trump. Because sometimes they’re even wrong about that. Apparently 2/3 of the time.

      Beacuse:

      • Trump is a evil moron, we know this. We’ve known this since 2016. Anyone who doesn’t know this is willfully ignorant or supportive of it.
      • Biden was supported to be better than Trump, and covering up things like “I am a mortal man, health goes down when you age” is literally what Trump did with his medical report.

Trump is worse, that does not excuse having a bad track record.

Hell, my wife was watching an episode of Designing Women and I overheard them shitting on trump. That episode was aired back in 91. Pretty sure his tendency toward fuckery was established once he became known.

Trump has always been the butt of a joke, Biff Tennan in Back to the Future 2 is based on Trump. Rosie O’Donald had a famous beef with him. He has always been known as a shithead.

When he announced his candidacy, my mom laughed out loud because she hoped this would be impossible and backfire in his face. She knew his stick for decades at that point. One of her rare times of being right the entire time, as her son.

Also follow up that I forgot, I was watching Northern Exposure, at some point in season 2, the conservative former-astronaut character said that Trump was a reason to excuse his actions. This aired in the 90s as well.

I think its a bias built around expectations. For some kids who like to rub feces on their faces and have a low IQ, you are just happy if they smell fine and dont disrupt the class. For other kids we assert a normal civilized standard of politeness, cleanliness, and output. If the teachers/administrators mess up too much, maybe the feces smearer gets pushed into a position of influence in the class out of desperation.

To move forward with the metaphor, we had higher standards for a democrat-- or we used to-- and we expect corruption and nastiness from republicans. And when the kids who we know to not have low potential start whining that how come they dont get treated with the tolerance we have of the face feces smearer, they get slapped and told thats not a measure they should be aspiring to. We dont judge ourselves by the lowest common denominator. We strive to live our lives better that that. The slap is a hint not to dwell in the gutter.

edit: and yes, I’m an old person who got slapped plenty growing up. And I grew up just fine and am now a joy to be around. (but yes, maybe rhetorical slapping is best)

But not a single peep about massive corruption by Trump, dismissal of laws and actual criminal shit like sexual assault of women.

      What?

You seriously have heard anything about that? That’s absolutely unbelievable, even rightwing news sources talk about it to deny it.

Where are you getting your news from that you haven’t heard any of that stuff?

My wife said the same thing about the Bob Woodward books.

    https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/The-Woodward-Trilogy/Bob-Woodward/9781982198916

Do the reporting FIRST, THEN do the book tour!

Roll back to Watergate, it was a news story FIRST, then a book.

Or the excellent reporting by David Cay Johnston - report that shit first THEN write the book.

Woodward’s contemporary books are full of bombshell allegations that made absolutely zero tangible difference to anything at all. Yes, you get the never-before-heard juicy gossip; no, putting it in the papers didn’t matter. We all witnessed the downstream effects live as they happened.

I have War right here. It’s a great look into the minds and personalities and motivations of the figures discussed. But at this point it frankly feels like those scientific studies that empirically confirm things that “everyone already knows.”

Jokes aside, Stewart acknowledged: “How fucking weird it is that the news is selling you a book about news they should have told you was news a year ago, for free.”

“I understand the excitement over an insidious Democratic cover-up about Joe Biden’s mental decline,” he added. “The thing is though, it was a terrible cover-up, because we all fucking knew.”

“There was no cover-up – poll after poll showed vast majorities of the public thought Biden was too old and too out of it to run again,” he continued. “Dean Phillips mounted an entire primary campaign because of it.”

“He along with most of the public knew it was a bad idea for Biden to run. We knew it,” Stewart concluded. “And that’s what’s so hilarious about politicians. The cover-up doesn’t work when everyone knows you’re lying.”

Literally the only reason some people think Biden was a good president, is he’s sandwiched between trump.

So much shit that Biden did would have been completely unacceptable pre-2016.

Like Stewart said, it wasn’t even a good coverup. Everyone could tell Biden was cooked, the admin and party just refused to admit reality exactly like trump is now.

They pulled a weekends at Bernie’s and when called out their only defense was obvious lies.

This also happened to some extent with Reagan. While it wouldn’t be another 5 years after his presidency when he was officially diagnosed with Alzheimers, it was speculated there were issues during his presidency.

Remember when we called out Biden’s health and were called useful idiots, and it was a big lie pushed for by the media?

And now they’re selling a book based in that reality. I guess when you notice things for free that’s propaganda, but when you can sell it that’s factual media.

I think they have a kind of understanding.

The understand that they are wrong, and that the consequence of their wrongness is Trumpism. However, they also understand that if they were to acknowledge that they are wrong, they would lose power.

For people like this, its more about maintaining individual power, than it is opposing fascism. Its the same for the apologists.

Because the DNC tipped the scales in the favor of policies that wouldn’t work against Trump, yes he lost. They did it twice. And he still supported them in the fight because he wanted Trump to lose. Bernie did more speeches for Hillary than he did for himself. Bernie still supported her, Biden, and Harris.

And where’s Hillary and Harris? Hiding after losing to the biggest moron in the history of the US, that makes Dubya look like a grandmaster 5D chess player.

Where’s Bernie? Doing protests, doing speeches, gathering people to stop Trump still.

And according to you, Bernie is unpopular because no one voted for him. He’s still going out and about.

Harris and Clinton were unpopular, and they’re doing…?

So is Bernie unpopular? Why is he drawing crowds and trying to fight Trump, drawing in more crowds than either of Trump’s inaugurations or any speeches? And if Harris is unpopular, why isn’t she doing the same?

Right, Trump is in control of the US. Trump is actively tearing apart the government. He’s somehow busy wrecking everything and still whining on Twitter or Truth Social about how everything bad with tarrifs is Biden’s fault and everything good despite Trump is his success.

Bernie is still fighting despite his party not being in the majority. Bernie is still doing rallies.

Harris isn’t in any office, Bernie is. Clinton isn’t in any office, Bernie is. Same with AOC. Out there doing national rallies to build numbers to at least get a voice of “Let’s end Trump.” They haven’t left office.

Bernie is actively at least showing up to his job, and still finding time to go outside and do things. How does this invalidate my statement? Bernie is helping, Harris is doing nothing. Bernie is trying to gather people to stop Trump, Clinton isn’t doing anything.

Wow, this thread is full of Russian bots and Trump supporters. Biden is the picture of health, extremely spry and cognizant, personally, I thought he handled himself very well in the debates, despite the media attacking him unfairly over his stutter. Regardless, he’s the nominee, whether you like him or not, no amount of complaining will change that. He’s the lesser evil so we’re stuck with him and you just have to vote for him, unconditionally.

There’s actually a really fun followup missing where they talk about how Harris gives them hope that they didn’t have with Biden and how they can finally see victory.

But I could see how we would miss that because it was a really brief window before we actually just return to above because “now is not the time to be voicing opinions to your leaders and telling them what you want from their potential win to get your vote” and they went right back to we needed cult like following of Biden because we can all agree Harris offered nothing.

I dunno. I upvoted it, because it’s a really spot-on parody of the kind of comments a lot of people were making last fall. At the time, though, I was more or less in that camp. Not because I actually wanted Biden, but because it seemed like we were stuck with him as the nominee, and Trump was the only alternative.

In 2020 jogergensen got 1.85 mil, Hawkins got 400k de la Fuente got 90k, and a few others around the same

In 2016 Johnson got 4.4 mil, stein got 1.4 mil, mcmullin got 730k.

You’re exactly right. There’s absolutely no way to influence the Democratic party’s decisions through criticism or making it clear that they’re on track to lose. Joe Biden is who we’re stuck with and if you say you won’t vote for him, you’re completely useless. He’s the only one who can beat Trump.

Strangely, he wasn’t listed on my ballot so I just had to write him in.

Fuck Tapper and fuck Stewart. Trump can’t tell a reporter what the Declaration of Independence means, but we’re still stuck on the fact that a man who dedicated his life to public service dared to get old.

This has to be obvious bait. He’s not upset he got old. He’s upset Biden (and anyone else in that position) was too self important/addicted/stupid to recognize when it’s time to step back and now we’re all suffering for it. Also, Hitler dedicated himself to a career of public service. Not really sure that just being a politician or federal worker in general is worthy of praise. I have a list of public servants I’d much prefer not to have ever served. Weird bootlicking behavior you got going on.

Why fuck Stewart exactly? He’s pointing out that Biden should have bailed out earlier, which it seems most people agree on these days, and that the “news” organizations should have broadcast the news when it was news.

Seems he got rolled in with the “fuck people who criticize career politicians” complaint.

That’s what Stewart is saying in this article, Biden’s mental difficulties wasn’t a surprise, we all knew about it.

The problem is the people ghost riding his presidency, mainstream media, and the old DNC all just chose to close ranks, deny reality, and insist Biden was as healthy as a man half his age despite all the evidence to the contrary.

      But I remember last year

Like you and I are right now, amazing how they prove themselves right for every criticism and complaint. If we said any of this 4 months ago, we would have been banned and called bots.

People lack any introspection. It’s a wonder we made it as a species this long and call ourselves clever. More just cockroaches of the mammal class.

It is a little funny they downvote to show that they wouldn’t have downvoted this.

“This guy is calling us out for downvoting anything we disagree with, I disagree so I’ll downvote!”

Braindead shit, I don’t expect much from .world but they keep dropping the bar lower each time.

I haven’t downvoted you, but I usually downvote any comments complaining about downvotes, or pretending that their point is proven by downvotes. It’s always fallacious masturbatory bullshit.
