I was just at Costco and saw some boomer wearing a try this in a small town t-shirt. Brain rot is real.

I don’t know about this specific iteration, but I bet there are hundreds of parodies (of wildly disparate cleverness and overall quality) of that hate crime of a song! Imma go check right now!

Edit:Sundown Town is an excellent one! I highly recommend it despite the lack of pee mention!

Edit 2: And Trae Crowder is both hilarious and on point as usual. Especially right about that last point! ✊️

and bud light tastes like watered down lager.

It’s actually an absolutely fantastic representation of that particular style of lager. Like, really, it’s the gold standard for that style the same way that Bell’s Two Hearted or Firestone’s Union Jack is for BJCP American IPA.

        The style just fucking sucks.

If you’re out cast-netting for shrimp in 100F weather with 100% humidity and social pressure keeps you from drinking anything non alcoholic, it hits the spot (or at a NASCAR event or driving to the next town).

Also very nice mixed half and half with sparkling lemonade.

Country does it the most, but they are not alone. Bands like Five Finger Death Punch come to mind. I feel like it’s a separate genre of Pander Pop.

Eh, I grew in up Texas. I’d say most country music is still about self sufficiency (Country Boy Can Survive - Hank Williams Jr) when it comes to Law & Order with a cheeky “get away with what you can” attitude towards laws (Pretty much all of Duke’s of Hazard, every song about moonshine, etc).

Country music has nearly always been somber and respectful towards people who serve in the military, and usually the police forces, because rural America is a big source of both and everyone has lost someone. Convoy by CW McCall comes to mind as another cheeky song about laws vs law enforcement itself.

Please don’t write off all country music as being like this.

    S.G. Goodman

    Kaia Kater

    Melissa Carper

    Iris Marlowe

    Orville Peck

Little Mazarn (a guaranteed religious experience every time for me; cannot recommend enough)

    H.C. Mcentire/Mount Moriah

    Amy Ray

    Grace Givertz

    Amythyst Kiah

    Carson McHone

    Creekbed Carter Hogan

    Adeem the Artist

    Charlotte Cornfield

    Sierra Ferrell

    Jaimee Harris

    Mckain Lakey

Diane Cluck (more folksy, but my unofficial shaman makes the list)

This is an incredibly short and incomplete list of country and folk music that isn’t right wing garbage. I don’t even personally listen to many of the more mainstream alternative country options. I listen to some amount of all of these people. I love love love folk and country music, and there are musicians out there making it just for me these days. Just avoid radio play garbage, and you’ll find that most forms of Americana are super gay and progressive.

Oh ugh, I instantly know who you’re talking about now. I was reading an article about it yesterday, he seems like trash. A large share of views/purchases came from iTunes, which suggests people were intentionally paying extra for it to support the message. Paid purchases have more effect on chart position than streamed listens, apparently.

I think that might be the case for radio country music, but there’s a huge resurgence or Americana that’s been happening for the last 15 years or so. Phosphorescent, Damien Jurado, Black Mountain and a lot of others on labels like Sub Pop (yes, that Sub Pop), Dead Oceans, Warm, and more. It’s worth looking into if you have a hankerin’ for some rebel country in the tradition of Waylon, Willie, and Bocephus.

Americana is a way better and far less cringeworthy genre imo, but it’s still niche compared to pop country.
