That song is mediocre at best, never seen a man see all the signs but miss the fuckin point so hard.

SG Goodman is where it’s at.

Hm, I think some points in the song are very true, not really everything.

I also like the tune and the vocals, like he sings it from the heart

how does he trash poor people? English is not my native language, but it sounded more like working people music and not trashing poor people.

Oliver complains about what poor people on welfare eat, pretty reactionary take.

Oh ugh, I instantly know who you’re talking about now. I was reading an article about it yesterday, he seems like trash. A large share of views/purchases came from iTunes, which suggests people were intentionally paying extra for it to support the message. Paid purchases have more effect on chart position than streamed listens, apparently.

Ah ok, I just read the lyrics and there are two lines were he talks trash about fat people. Don’t necessarily agree with it.

But why the fuck is he a Nazi??? I googled, nothing. Link your sources or I call bullshit

I’m not a fan of saying that any genre is dead, per se, just in the midst of an… unfortunate trend.

A 20 year trend is just an evolution. It can return to its roots, but it’s not like this whole thing was a brief tendency

I think that might be the case for radio country music, but there’s a huge resurgence or Americana that’s been happening for the last 15 years or so. Phosphorescent, Damien Jurado, Black Mountain and a lot of others on labels like Sub Pop (yes, that Sub Pop), Dead Oceans, Warm, and more. It’s worth looking into if you have a hankerin’ for some rebel country in the tradition of Waylon, Willie, and Bocephus.

Or go to any local bluegrass show. You may not know the bands, but they’re always way better than what gets passed off as country these days.

Americana is a way better and far less cringeworthy genre imo, but it’s still niche compared to pop country.
