The College Board accused Florida last week of effectively banning AP Psychology classes due to their sexuality and gender content.
Florida really going hard on culture wars, huh? What a really stupid state.
If they aren’t stupid yet, they’re working damn hard to get there.
In fairness, I know a lot of smart people in Florida. They’re just outnumbered by their stupid neighbors.
I’d like to think I’m smart, but the longer I’m here, the more I question my self-assessment.
(I’m in a really gd nice area, though. Doesn’t stop some asshole flying 3-story-tall “trump won” banners, unfortunately.)
Hang in there. Nothing lasts forever. :)
eventually, florida will just be ocean.
As will most of the southeast. Has been before, will be again.
Any kind of self-assesment puts you in the lead.
And - hopefully - leaving the state pretty damn quickly.
Living in a similar state that seems to ape Florida in a lot of ways, I admit to being of two minds. One on hand, sane people should be running for the exits. On the other, things will never get better if we let the idiots chase us into a dozen states along the coasts. I don’t know which is better in the long run.
I feel like people who say things like this forget that NASA’s main space centers are in Florida, Alabama and Texas.
Florida makes even my small, stupid brain hurt.
Shit title, Florida didn’t reverse anything.
I have to say I just don’t understand this one. Surely if you’re bigoted against someone with different preferences than you, you’d want to call them a psychological issue, wouldn’t you? Doesn’t this ban contradict their hatefulness?
The state wants to ban all mention of gender and sexuality in schools because they don’t think children need to learn about that (even though that’s real life). Sexual and gender issues are a necessary part of the AP psych curriculum, therefore, teachers cannot teach the complete course without facing legal ramifications. The state has failed to clarify this so nothing has been resolved.
It really is infantilizing kids of high school age to make them deliberately ignorant (and therefore reject) people who have different preferences. It’s horrific and is doomed to fail. The real world has a way of catching up.
