Activists plan more events Tuesday in New York, Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta.

The protests that roiled Los Angeles over the weekend were set to spread Tuesday across the country, as activists planned demonstrations in New York, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta and elsewhere.

Rallies protesting ICE raids and the government’s immigration policies have spread across California and beyond this week. A series of so-called No Kings demonstrations are planned nationwide for Saturday.

Some 56 people were arrested in L.A. over the weekend as some 700 marines and more than 2,000 National Guard troops were deployed by Donald Trump in response to protests that began on Friday, sparking an extraordinary showdown with California Gov. Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, who strongly criticized the move as executive overreach.

The bottom line is if we don’t do this, America will descend into fascism. It’s pretty obvious at this point.

This is it folks. A history book moment. Show up.

America has already descended into fascism, you are doing it to climb out of the hole!

Keep it up, be smart, stay safe and godspeed

Sure. Either force them to raise taxes, which will increase unrest further, or make them sell more bonds/take loans. Yes, it’ll suck temporarily, but temporary suffering is the price that has to be paid to fight Fascists.

Clearly you don’t understand how taxation works. Or what a Deficit is. This is literally the same logic the right is using to justify tariffs and mass deportations.

“We will just make the government waste our money until they can’t handle it anymore!” As if we haven’t been doing that for decades already.

What a silly take on all this. Zero thought.

Lol. Apparently you don’t know how unrest works. It builds gradually… until it’s too much to contain.

Also, you are leaving out addressing selling bonds to raise money, like I also mentioned. Taxes aren’t the only way to raise money, though bonds/debt don’t really cause unrest so not good for us in this scenario.

Yeah I’m the idiot for not believing I can outlast a United States government spending spree.

Have you seen all the wars we’ve been in the last 25 years? Have you seen our defence budget? Our janitorial budget? Our paper clip budget? Fucking hell. For all the financial suffering you are willing to “suffer through”, most goes to corporations. Not the government.

You aren’t even a rounding error in the feds books. To do that would make you a multimillionaire.

And the people around you? Yeah good luck. Just a fraction of a percent under fifty percent, believe it or not, they voted for this shit. They have been playing the ‘financial suffering for the greater good’ card since the tariffs started. And they are better organized and propogandized. Trust me, I’ve heard it a lot. And they even have hats!

Let’s try to come up with some better reasoning before you think your personal morals and convictions can outlast the united states ability to throw money at literally everything…

I agree with the intent, but they’re shooting rubber bullets at people. These are supposed to be bounced off the ground before hitting someone, but they normally aim right at people. You have to hope they aim for your legs, because they can, have, and will kill if they hit you in the head. With that in mind, kid’s heads are usually around leg height, so right in range to take a poorly aimed rubber bullet to the head.

If they’re teenagers, sure. Bring them with you. Anyone younger I’d say they’re best left at home probably, or at least out of the fray. Maybe they can participate in a way that doesn’t risk being shot by trigger happy cops.

I read in another comment that there is a type of rubber bullet that has a steel ball inside- if those are shot at the floor and bounce, the ricochet can result in something like the reporter that needed calf surgery. Either way, it is fucked. Bring a cup like you’d use for football to protect your groin, and I read that skateboard helmets tend to offer more protection from the side and back of your head. I wouldn’t bring a kid if there is a chance of armed civil enforcement.

I’m torn on this, I agree with your point and think it’s important to not do what the fascists want, provide an excuse to escalate violence further, but also they have been escalating all on their own and folks attending should be prepared for that escalation. Everyone has got to make their own decisions, I’ll be there with bells on but shit could get really dicey so I cant blame anyone that wants to keep their kids at home.

USA is becoming weirder by the minute if it’s a reasonable expectation to find armor let alone a bulletproof one… these aren’t video game protagonists.

It is clear that the police are trigger happy. Armed forces are trained to kill hostiles not calm civil unrest or protect constitutional rights. Trump has opted to deploy marines as well, which are going to be very young. This is all a recipe for disaster.

In my original comment I have included a video tutorial and demonstration for a low budget, thin, light, yet highly effective bullet proof armor plate. If you are going to demonstrations in areas where the military has been deployed, make sure you protect yourself. This is even more important for those acting as medics since they quickly become prime targets in situations like this.

Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.

They sell bulletproof backpacks in the US for children, not uncommonly. Body armor has been recommended for serious protesters for a while. In 2020 numerous average people were shot by right-wing opposition at protests.

You can just order a bullet proof vest from Amazon.

2 burner phones, one for you and one for someone at home who can bail you out, no other information on either except each other’s number. Edit: maybe the number of an appropriate lawyer? Not like you can just call Jared.
