Suppose trump was actually the one to negotiate a cease fire with Palestinians and Isreal. That can only be considered in hindsight and would not change the harm reduction calculation. Notice how no one was arguing that trump would actually be the one to end the fighting in Gaza?

    Right.

    Trump stops the genocide

OOP must have been fucking zooted out of his mind, no sensible Arab or person in general believes trump is going to solve anything; in fact, he will make everything so much worse.

At this point, i wish the best for our brothers and sisters in Palestine, and i hope they live to see the end of the genocide. It’s a lose-lose situation for them either way, but one way is clearly worse.

I’m also very concerned about Sudan and Syria, too. The democrats were always shit like all politicians and political parties; but republicans are very up front on what they want to do to us.

jfc, i don’t know who i hate more: democrats who want to keep funding israel, or pro palestinians voting for trump. Either way, the death will continue.

I haven’t ever even broached Tibet because I don’t think I could stomach witnessing the ensuing trainwreck of logic.

It’s just so incredibly intellectually disingenuous. I got in it with one at one point (big mistake on my part) saying that no country or system is perfect, and a meaningful indicator evidencing critical thought is the capacity to criticize your own system. What, in their mind, were the top issues with China?

        1. Too much freedom in the market.
        2. Doesn’t project it’s system outside it’s border enough.

Ok. I’m talking to a rational actor. Lol.

People need to remember Netantahu wants Trump in power, so is going to make decisions that are good optics for Trump when he can. He similarly made decisions that are bad optics for Biden on purpose. While Biden did himself no favors, never forget Netanyahu is the one who put him in that position.

It’s so odd that the time line for this surge of fighting happened right through the election cycle. You know, it’s almost like if you were to coordinate political strategies with your allies you could find advantageous opportunities that serve each other to the disadvantage of your opponents. Except, that could never happen, right? Right? As if what appeared to be genocide was just sloppy blitzkrieg trying to cause as much damage as possible in a limited time frame.

Ok, I’ll shut up now, I wouldn’t want people to think those with unlimited resources are capable of high level strategic warfare.

I would like to remind people this conflict is decades and decades old, it’s not a democrat thing, or republican thing. America has supported this genocide for over 50 years. The democrats and republicans of now will surely, if unfortunately, continue.

Wow. Just universally equating all Arabs to one another. So, to you, there’s no difference whatsoever between individual Arabs, they all believe and act exactly the same, all over the world? Doesn’t matter who specifically did the things you’re claiming, they’re all guilty?

Quite possibly the most blatantly racist comment I’ve seen to date on Lemmy. And you have the audacity to call out others here.

I think it comes from the fact that if you have a vagina and the accompanying microscopic perineum then you should not wipe back to front, as that could potentially move bacteria from fecal matter towards the vulva, where it could get into the urethra and cause a UTI or any number of places and cause all sorts of undesirable issues, and thus doing it is “stupid” as in a bad idea. From that it became a more general way of saying someone is “stupid” like “you sound like you ate play-doh/glue/whatevs as a kid”. Got picked up on some twitter-adjacent parts of the internet and now it’s slang.

Sadly there are too much Anti-western actors interested in it being perceived as genocide, no matter what’s happening on the ground. With billions of Qatari/IRGC/Putin/CCP money it can be easy to spread a narrative, especially against the only state that is Jewish

And kudos for combating “the poplar” narrative, I used to argue quite a lot about politics a year ago back on kbin, but after a bunch of the same discussions and buzzwords lost motivation to do it

Every single word which has been used to refer to a mentally disabled person will, eventually, become a slur.

“Idiot” and “moron” used to be technical medical terms. There actually used to be a whole spectrum, with “idiot” being a pretty profound level of disability, meaning that someone’s mental age was around two years old or younger.

“Retarded” was a new invention, to introduce a new term which didn’t overlap with the slurs for a non-disabled person who was being stupid. Eventually, it came to be used as a slur, at which point we couldn’t used it for actually disabled people anymore. This cycle will repeat, I think, without end.

Probably the best thing to do is use terms which are too cumbersome to easily become slurs. “Mentally disabled” is one.

I just had a comment removed for using the M-word. I replaced it with stupid, hopefully that passes the purity test. It occurred to me that dumb could easily be construed as offensive to those who are unable to speak, much more justifiably than the R-word, in my opinion.

Mentally disabled is already quite unacceptable according to some, the current cutting edge of political correctness is probably persons of/with intellectual disability. Which will probably last a couple years before we need to come up with something else.

It’s eerily reminiscent of Orwellian themes of doublespeak and Newspeak. Limiting the functionality of language in order to prevent the expression of undesirable or socially disruptive thoughts.

All of this is also massively complicated by the fact that languages other than English exist. This rapid lexical treadmill that we are currently on is quite certainly discriminatory towards non-native English speakers, because they will inevitably inadvertently use outdated terminology and be judged for it, while those who are privileged enough to be close to the sources of political correctness such as they exist will have an inherent social advantage due to that.

We live in an extremely highly regarded society, congrats all around 👏

Yeah, agreed. I mean… I’m fine with no longer using the R-word to refer to people who are being stupid. I think it’s silly, but I also am not trying to offend anyone unnecessarily. I don’t want to be the grandpa who says “colored” and can’t understand why everyone tells me I’m not allowed to say that. I’m just pointing out that the cycle of words being okay and then slowly turning into bad words you can’t say anymore, maybe implies that it’s not worth the huge amount of emphasis we put on making sure we’re using the right words and not the wrong words, sometimes.

I don’t know if I completely agree with the R-word being now not acceptable as much as the N-word.

But I believe the reason behind it is ‘stupid’ is and always has been general term for anyone and always has been.

‘Retard’ was actually used as a medical term for a class of people that had cognitive issues outside of their control. And while a good majority of people have re-used the word to general mean ‘stupid’ over the years with no intention to imply said person you are saying that to actually has ‘cognitive issues’ outside of their control.

I believe that’s why its derogatory now, but yeah… language is always changing.
