An oral surgeon was convicted on Friday of a murder charge in the death of his girlfriend who overdosed on anesthetic drugs that he administered at his Maryland home.
Jurors heard testimony that James Ryan, 50, set up an intravenous stand to administer the addictive drugs to his 25-year-old girlfriend, Sarah Harris, who was found dead at his Montgomery County home in January 2022.
Ick. A fifty year old dentist with a girlfriend half his age, who he routinely hooks up to an IV drip cocktail of tranquilizers. That’s just awful.
Not to imply that she wasn’t a willing participant. Addicts usually are, which makes them such easy prey.
I do hope he gets a long enough sentence that he leaves prison as an old man or in a box.
You could say he got to the root of his problem.
Oral surgeons don’t do root canals. Though joke was fine.
Oral surgeons don’t do root canals.
I had considered endodontist to be a subset of oral surgeon, and indeed I would consider my one endodontist experience—repairing a badly done root canal—to have been oral surgery, what with the cutting of my gums and going in above the root and stuff, but it does seem like you are correct that “oral surgeon” is a different category.
There are like 9 speciality in dentistry like Oral medicine, oral and Maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, conservative and endodontic, pedodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, oral pathology and histology and public health dentistry.
And yes endodontist are top tier for your root canal treatment. Though skilled general dentists can do that also.
Oral surgeons on other hand do lots of surgeries like extracting impacted wisdom tooth or canine, aesthetic surgery like rhinoplasty, treat facial fractures, orthognathic surgery and so on.
