I will remember this. Thank you.
I’m trans and I like the story. I didn’t pay for it, but I’ve read epubs of the original series, HPMOR, and played Hogwarts Legacy (which I did pay for (on offer) because I don’t pirate games out of malware fears). Hogwarts Legacy even has a fairly central trans character, Sirona, so it’s hard to claim it’s transphobic.
Yes, the game company did the bare minimum to cover up the author’s transphobia by including a trans character. Doesn’t change the fact that Joanne takes that money and uses it to hurt trans folk.
Also the whole plot of Hogwarts Legacy is blood libel, but we’ll not go into that.
I think what worries me most is the Streisand Effect, and what I call the “no such thing as bad attention” phenomenon of the 21st century.
Obviously don’t pay JK money.
…But I suspect actively rallying against her could backfire too? Maybe put more attention on Harry Potter to newcomers, or provoke an “anti boycott,” or even just keep her in mind by constantly discussing her transphobia.
I dunno! All I know is living in people’s head is now a working way to rise their prominence, no matter how nasty they are.
…I don’t have great solution. Maybe encourage everyone to just pretend she doesn’t exist, and high seas her stuff if you must?
