    1. Hooray
    2. I was all set to congratulate the trailer on making a compelling case for the movie without any significant spoilers, but so much for that lol

Yeah I’m pleased for everyone who seems to know this book but I don’t and now I don’t feel like there’s any point i seeing this.

Yeah they spolled some of the best parts of the book. I will go see this because its one of my favorite novels, but have no hope thay won’t fuck it up like they did with the Martain.

Yeah. I get that they couldn’t just have the trailer be “this guy wakes up in a spaceship and we can’t tell you anything else,” but maybe they should have.

I was willing to forgive them for spoiling the context of the mission (even though it’s still significant), but come on man. You guys knew that was a secret. You knew.

Yeah, but I feel like the real fun of that book is, like with the Martin, the repeat science MacGyver events.

I which they would go for less famous actors sometimes. It’s going to be hard to immerse in the story when thinking about Ken from Barbie the whole time. It’s not that he plays bad, he is a very good actor, but this is how my brain works.

There’s also Artemis, a thriller set on a lunar colony. A little less science than The Martian or Hail Mary, but still fun.

I haven’t read The Martian, I have read Project Hail Mary and I enjoyed it, it’s an easy read.

Yeah, I can’t see how you cram all that into 2 hours. Stuff will get cut.

My bet is that a lot of the earth stuff and waking up in space stuff will get truncated to hell.

My guess is 2 and a half hour movie. Scenes will be like the book going back and forth, and they’ll cut a lot of filler chit chat he has with rocky. You could skip the language barrier parts with a montage or a “months later” type thing.

When I watch a movie based off a book though. I will NEVER compare the two and treat them as two completely different things. Makes media more enjoyable that way.

          Yeah.

“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “The Shining” are the two times that an excellent book has been turned into an excellent movie by deviating from the book to create something that’s well suited to be on the screen and they both are good.

“The Shawshank Redemption” is the one time that an excellent book* has been turned into an excellent movie by sticking to the source material and just doing a good job bringing it to life.

In all other cases the movie is a pale imitation, if the book was any good. Just put the book out of your mind and watch the movie, it’s a movie.

I actually rephrased my statement and made it in the exact way that I did because of the Lord of the Rings. The movies are excellent, easily good enough to be masterpieces by Hollywood standards, but they are still a pale imitation of the original.

Seems like they made him sufficiently dorky.
Rockys hand in the window is somehow exactly how I pictured it. Can’t wait the Poop Scene!
