Votes don’t matter here, it’s not tracked. Some instances don’t even display votes either way.

They matter to just about everyone not on hexbear (for them it really matters but they tell us it does not).

Maybe just you? I’ve seen a few people get mad about it but most people seem wholly unconcerned with them, and rightfully so.

Can you tell me what my total “points” are?

I’m not even sure downvotes affect a comments visibility on here, with the way federation works I bet they don’t.

          Ha, you downvoted me. Ironic.

Oh and yes the votes do effect visabilty on Lemmy. Some ways of interfacing with lemmy also allow you to see user totals. But that is not the value of votes, the value is in the feedback and interaction on comments.

Cool , so what’s your total internet points?

You can spin up an instance and query the db to find out if you want, I’ll wait.

This opinion has always been stupid. It has never been about “points,” it has been about reputation, the points were only ever meant as a shorthand representation of the reputation. So yes, Lemmy won’t give me your point total, but I can still see both your comments themselves and their “scores” that I might be able to gauge whether or not you have a reputation as somebody with meaningful contributions or as a contrarian edgelord.

So you can’t actually judge a comment on its own but need Randoms (and bots) to tell you how you should interpret it.

Definitely not the flex you think it is, and karma doesn’t exist here lol. “Reputation” doesn’t exist in a way that follows the account. Votes are exceptionally easy to manipulate. Keep assigning value to internet points and I’ll just keep pointing and laughing.

What an absolutely insane stretch that has nothing to do with what I said. Clearly you aren’t here to discuss, you’re just here to soapbox. But I didn’t sign up for your asinine TedTalk, so I’m just gonna block you so I never have to waste my time on you again.

That’s probably your best bet champ.

Enjoy fretting about made up points on a federated platform that doesn’t track them and usually doesn’t even correctly display them unless you interact with the comment, peak redditard.
