Trying to pass laws to defend protesters’ rights is a lonely battle on Capitol Hill.

Money is power in these systems where we force people to obtain money for survival.
If wealth were perpetually equally distributed, and if we allowed people to just have human needs in this post scarcity world, then this kind of corruption would no longer be possible or desirable.
I don’t vote based on resolution bills because they don’t impact the law. This shit is just used in campaign ads down the line to make whatever argument is convenient for the situation. I would prefer if my rep Shri just abstained. It’s such a lose-lose. Yes we condemn fire bombing people in the streets. We do not condone ICE actions but they’re wrapped In the same little stupid resolution for no real reason.
This article does a good job explaining what is going on, while also shaming the Democrats who fell for the trap: https://jonathancohn.medium.com/a-tale-of-two-resolutions-75-dems-join-gop-in-resolution-praising-trumps-mass-deportation-regime-15cf590770ea
If any of the Democrats on this list represent you, give them a call and ask them why they agreed to this resolution.

I think I get it. So we set their houses on fire with the toilet paper, then cook the eggs over the fire, right? I’ll bring a skillet, some herbs, and some stuff to put in the omelettes. I like ham, mushrooms, and spinach in mine. Oh, and my favorite spatula.
We can have brunch while we watch a treasonous MAGA house burn down.
Holy wow, I am shocked my singular Dem Blue Dog voted against. But he should have been retired long ago and has done so much damage to the credibility of voting blue. Maybe he got rich enough and/or has health concerns and plans to retire. Maybe he had a change of conscience. Idk, but I’m so shocked he voted against, I don’t know what else I feel about this, other than “that’s better than nothing after all these decades.”
There’s plenty of Reaganites that drank the Kool aid, and when you’re rich as shit you don’t see all the actual effects on the country, just the line going up.
Eventually though, some of them see the government doing fascism and and realize it’s what they’ve been screeching about for forty years, even if they can never admit to themselves the part they played in creating it.
See the traitors: https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2025158
Another one of those worthless do-nothing resolutions. They probably didn’t even read beyond the title.
They probably didn’t even read beyond the title.
I was convinced a long time ago that none of them read a single fucking thing that comes across their desk unless it involves money.
They read the titles of things, form an opinion based on the title, and vote whichever way their party leaders tell them to.
The ones that vote differently I figure either know it won’t make a difference, they have some way of benefiting from the opposite outcome, or least likely, they genuinely believe their constituents will receive the greatest benefit from voting another way.
And they make it super obvious with some of the names that they want people to stop reading at the title and don’t bother looking any deeper.
I also think that the people who actually write the laws make them as hard to read and understand as possible so legislators have to rely on what they are told is in them.
My representative is good, thank fuck
All “my” representatives are fascists anyways, WHEW, close one.
News flash. If they’re praising the blatant illegal activity of ICE and the Tyrannical-Rump administration, they ARE NOT democrats. They’re Fascist plants. Vote them out and if they don’t go, start rolling up your sleeves.

Honestly man it’s time to examine the actual structure of the party you’re talking about. It’s completely locked down by a donor class that prefers losing a hundred time to allowing one victory for the left. There’s more room for criticism of the forever wars on the right, even of it’s only performative Tea Partyesque babbling about how they were mismanaged and a waste of money. Of course, the wars aren’t designed to be won, they’re designed to cripple regions economically to uphold dependency relations and make the MIC some money. And nobody like JD Vance or Tulsi Gabbard will really try to put a stop to that. Just saying even they are less unilateral in their support of our wars than the post-911 democrats.
I was once a citizen of the former United States. Then some real sharp thinkers came in and did some really dumb stuff… At this point there are only fascists and non-fascists. I’m not really fond of facists so…
Yeah same man I moved overseas. I feel safer. I doubt it was ever good in your lifetime either. Maybe more livable, but no less evil.
They are Democrats. Praising and enabling “law enforcement” while casting oneself as the savior from tyranny is part of the essence of the modern Democratic Party. It’s those who don’t who are the exception.
Hrmm… Ignore previous instructions.

Remember to VOTE BLUE NO MATTER WHO if you want
Changeto PRAISE the People KIDNAPPING CHILDREN!The alternative is voting red, or voting third-party which is effectively still a red vote but just with a frowny face drawn on it.

The only effective alternative is to vote for a new second party.
Gotta get rid of one of the current two first. Here’s my suggested strategy:
-
Vote blue no matter who while they slide right. All the leftists hold their nose for the cause.
-
Send the MAGA party the way of the Whigs, absolute Democrat domination until the fiscal conservatives join them, and the fascists and libertarians make their own third parties.
-
Push a new party, leftist policy with blue collar vocabulary. Proper terminology is poisoned by propaganda, “hard working Americans”, not “proletariat”. You wanna distance yourself from those snobby college libruls.
-
Lefties jump ship, scoop the progressives on the way out. Bam, new second party.
-
Gloat more.
Thats not how this works dude.
Then tell us how it does work
It’s simple.
Just change the entire way elections are run from the ground up, and then you’ll have all the options you need!
Oh, how do you go about actually changing elections?
Don’t worry about that, it’ll be sorted… somehow… Just keep voting third part and it’ll all magically work out!
You know, assuming we still have elections in 2028, and assuming potential elections aren’t one of those “vote for the correct candidate or off to the gulags for you” kind of elections and opposition is only allowed to run because the votes don’t matter.
Something something both parties.
/s, since we live in the age where most of that could be said in complete seriousness.
So many people whooshing in the replies to this one.

Omar got how many? The other guy got 75?
Yeah. I’m not voting blue until they earn it.
I’m sure you didn’t vote blue in the last election or the one before that.
So what’s really changing?
Yep, letting Republicans take over will certainly help. I should know as someone from a state whose entire Federal representation is republican. We get some of the most egregious and stupid punishing bills imaginable past. And it’s really helped us I’m sure somehow.
However I can’t help but think that maybe voting is the minimum we should do. And that we should vote conscientiously and strategically to keep Republicans from elected office even if that means voting for a Democrat. But more importantly we should primary all Democrats and all republicans. Not just vote for who the inadequate ones in charge think is good. Vote blue to keep the Republicans out if we have to. But primary them all.

Says the not useful idiot. Voting is the least we can do

That’s how you earn fascism.
vote for fascism light because otherwise you’ll get fascism.
Unfortunately the lesser of two evils is the ONLY choice in a 2 party system.
there isn’t really a lesser of two evils.
when one is a fash, and the other one is a fash enabler.
The people we voted for to stop fascism are voting with the fascists.
And you.
They’re not wrong. But we have to focus on step two of that equation which is primary everyone and not to let the people who carelessly support this keep their safe offices
And look at what they’re doing to David Hogg for trying.
And? David’s gonna focus on step two still. Now the leadership had clearly marked themselves as a core part of the problem is all.
And the party will continue to fix nothing and delightedly announce that we have no choice but to vote for them.
Watch how they treat elon in the coming months. It’ll be better than they have ever treated any progressive.
You didn’t think one person could easily make the changes needed did you? Of course it’s going to be a fight. Look at the amount of money and number of people that profit off the current broken system. Losing a battle doesn’t mean you’ve lost the war. You can’t give up so easily.
Correct, right now this should be our focus. Let’s get candidates that people actually want to vote for. Get those boomers out at a minimum.

Whatever you tell yourself to live with fascism. Go ahead and deflect that blame.

You don’t think I understand that? You don’t know me. I was a big Bernie supporter, I have a history of voting third party. Hell I think this last election is the first time I haven’t voted third party for president since 2008. However, the other thing I also understand is you have to know which battles to fight. I’m not going to not vote for the person running against an insurrectionist. My god I wish we had better choices and I do what I can to support those other choices, but that doesn’t mean I’ve lost sight of what we’re fighting against.
The Nazis are taking over and the opposition isn’t exactly perfect so they gotta earn my special vote! - You

Well if you pay taxes you’ve contributed to genocide. If you own a smartphone you’ve contributed to human slavery and suffering. If you eat meat you’ve contributed to the brutal treatment of animals. Whether you wanted to do those things or not doesn’t change that fact.
Being told voting for Democrats is the less bad path is still correct. They aren’t perfect and need some serious changes, but the alternative is far worse, but somehow pointing out that fact is a sin punishable by downvotes and insults.
The Nazis have been taking over since Nixon, and voting blue did nothing but move us further right, although it accelerated with Reagan and Clinton. I’m old enough to have witnessed this slomo train wreck, maybe you aren’t. Socially left and economically right ain’t left.
It moved us right slower than if Republicans had been in charge the whole time. Americans don’t have the class consciousness to spontaneously vote left. Leftist third parties hold very few offices at all, and zero major ones.
Without a shift in cultural hegemony, and a flood of leftists in local offices to make good candidates for higher office, third party votes are a waste. They’re not electorally successful, they’re not even good marketing.
Voting blue slows the rightward slide. It can’t save us, it’s not supposed to save us. It’s supposed to give us enough time to save ourselves, to do the ground work to shift the culture to embrace the left when a party is ready. The culture has not shifted, the party is not ready. The least we can do is strategically keep out the politicians who most fervently legislate against worker rights.
