Tense confrontations between police and demonstrators in L.A. continued for a second day on Saturday, in response to operations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents

Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, said he plans to send the National Guard to Los Angeles to combat protests against ICE that began this weekend following immigration raids in the city.

“We are making Los Angeles safer. Mayor Bass should be thanking us. She says they are going to mobilize—guess what? We are already mobilizing. We are going to bring the National Guard in tonight,” Homan told Fox News.

His comments come after Senior White House adviser Stephen Miller railed against the protests, calling them an “insurrection” against the United States.

I watched most of it on TikTok live since Friday. It began with a hit and run of a protestor by ICE.

I definitely didn’t see looters, but protestors were throwing rocks, cinder blocks, and M80s, and lighting cars on fire. That prompted ICE to don riot gear and deploy tear gas.

This is a bad idea. We don’t have the numbers to get baited into escalation. This will only embolden fascism.

Huh? You absolutely do. And remember that this started because ICE was rounding up people off the street, so “not getting baited into escalation” would require allowing that to happen, which goes against the kind of solidarity necessary to depose Trump’s regime.

Our largest protest was 5M people nationwide. That’s smaller than the percent of communists that Hitler incarcerated in his first wave of detentions.

We are smarter than Trump. Let’s fucking act like it.

Fascism will escalate regardless, in the absence of real resistance they will simply lie to justify doing what they were always planning to do anyway, passively accepting their actions will do nothing to help, resistance is the only correct answer and it will absolutely have to be violent

I watched it happen all day yesterday. Protesters are throwing rocks through windows of vehicles as they drive by. They’re lighting M80s and throwing them at the agents.

The VAST majority is peaceful. Many are throwing rocks. A few are taking even further.

I get that they’re pissed, but this isn’t the solution. Refusing to walk into a trap isn’t cowardice, it’s strategy.

alleged protestors. The cops always sprinkle in agent-provacateurs to get exactly what they want. They quite literally even do it in sewing and knitting circles if they have any political message.

That’s absolutely true. I’ve experienced unusual bad actors personally many years ago, and I certainly wouldn’t put it past this administration.

I never said resistance was a trap. I said violent resistance was. Violence will hand Trump his Reichstag Fire on a silver platter.

Trump is itching to enact the Insurrection Act. That will make growing our numbers far more difficult. Meanwhile, you’re advocating losing resisters to incarceration, scaring people back into their homes due to unsafe protest conditions, while giving Trump the justification he needs to strip our rights.

Do you always think with your feelings? You should try your brain. Logic and strategy know no cowardice. They only know how to outthink the opposition.

How about you read a book about Nazi Germany and then we can talk? Fighting fascism with less than 2% of the population is how you get your resistance incarcerated.

We need more people. We lose people with violence.

I’m clearly more educated than you. It’s emotional reactionaries such as yourself that give the fascists justification to legally suspend our rights. Maybe spend less time at the gym and go find a library.

I’m saying violent resistance is the reason we’re about to lose rights and people to incarceration. Protestors will be too afraid to protest for their safety. I’m saying violence is not productive. Why is that hard to comprehend?

Because you’re losing those rights regardless of whether or not you fight. You can’t placate fascists. If you give them an inch they will take the whole mile, so may as well fight for the whole mile.

Too busy licking the fascists boots to actually be educated. The fascists that are cutting funding for college universities that fight back against his antidei policies, quite literally using the military to end a protest, and using unmarked armed gestapo to disappear people.

re·ac·tion·ar·y /rēˈakSHəˌnerē/ adjective (of a person or a set of views) opposing political or social liberalization or reform.

The comment that I made, that you challenged, was that we need to keep resistance peaceful. Don’t lose the point. You’re advocating for a reduction in our resistance because your feelings outweigh your thoughts.

We fight this with peaceful resistance until we have more numbers in the streets or we fall like Nazi Germany, chipped away little by little.

Yeah, we need more peaceful protesters to be attacked by cops and counter-protesters, then get blamed for the violence.

Or maybe the fascists will eventually just decide to stop, all on their own…

Or we could act on emotion and lose a portion of our resistance to a clear trap set by the dumbest president we’ve ever had.
