‘Getting your/my/a bag’ is also now modern slang for … bringing in some income for yourself.

Like if you recently got a job, and someone said ‘hell yeah, get your bag!’, that would be an endearing way of congratulating you on your new income or revenue stream, basically.

I am not entirely sure how the modern etymology works, but it is likely related to older, archaic phrases like ‘bag of coin’ that you mention… in some way.

No no no, this is more urban/gen z/internet slang.

This is the mostly white, middle aged, suburban/rural, racist, facebook-posting SovCit crowd starting to adopt some of the common lingo of younger, multiracial / ethnically diverse, twitch streamer/tiktok crowd.

Honestly, etymylogically, it reminds me of how my white trash neighbors, when i was a kid, started calling themselves ‘wiggers’ as rap music began getting more widely popular just generally in the late 90s / 00’s.
