Idk, Scrubs ended at season 8 for me. Maybe I’ll give it a chance, but I’m keeping expectations pretty low. Reading the article, it seems like it could be worthwhile if it really is just a season or two of “old friends” getting back together for a little fun. We’ll see, but it looks like Braff is the only one signed up for now, and that won’t really sell it for me

Edit: Working in the medical field makes me a little averse to medical shows. But Scrubs and (now) The Pitt are about the only ones I feel have merit (to me). Despite different styles, they both hit pretty hard sometimes

This one kinda always lives rent free in my mind. It’s all about the patient… just do your best and fuck the rest. You can deal with everything else when you’re off shift

Season 8 is where show runner Bill Lawrence wanted it to end. The only reason there was ever a season 9 is because it was supposed to be a spin-off, but the ghouls at the network insisted it carry the Scrubs branding.

The title “Scrubs: Med School” is fine for me as a spinoff. Different performance of the intro song, fine. We’ve got a new POV character, a new gang as it were, younger, even younger than the original crew, they’re not first day interns, they’re med school students, so they’re even more raw and incomplete as people, they’ve got earlier lessons to learn.

They didn’t give the first series time to rest, they had no faith in the new concept or the new cast, so they bring back a lot of the old cast to…exist? They had all gotten one of TV’s biggest “and they lived happily ever after”'s, so they’re not really able to have growth moments and drama of their own, they mostly serve as rocks for the new cast to bash themselves against.

If they’d given it a few years to let the audience start wanting more, and then focused entirely on the new crew with maybe one of the original actors in a recurring role (like have Cox or Turk as the hospital administrator, Kelso’s role) and maybe have other characters return as single episode guest stars the way Michael J. Fox and Dick Van Dyke did, and you know, have any faith in the concept at all, it would have gone 4 seasons.

reboots rarely work out, especially done so “soon” after a series ended. reiminagied series can be good though, like with BSG, but still fall shorts on many things, due to showrunners personal agenda.

I think I will reserve judgement until I see it. A getting-the-gang-back-together series or two could be a good time, or it could be another “Scrubs: Med School”.

When has one of these reboots worked?

An example that comes to mind is the “reboot as new show but with blatant fan service cameos” formula used by “The Big Bag Theory”, “Young Sheldon”, and “Georgie’s First Marriage”.

Scrubs could be done well in the same style. Of course, I also liked the last time they tried it.

Another example that worked - “Mission Impossible” - the first movie was a good movie but a bad adaptation of the original show, but the series has gone on to become a completely worthy extension of the original show.

And…well…That’s two. So I night just be sharing the exceptions that prove the rule.

I don’t know about others, but I kinda liked Picard. It was clear it was just an excuse to get the old gang back together, but it was enjoyable to watch.

I’m not sure how enjoyable it would have been to someone unfamiliar with TNG, but I enjoyed it.

Now that you mention it, it probably could have done without season 2.

picard was terriblely written series, the “nostalgia” gimmick was just to save the dying show.STD and snw wernt that great, and snw ranked about the other 2 series. however, LOWER DECKS AND PRODIGY were much better series than the other 2.

kurtzman being involved dint help anything either.

I don’t think ending each episode with a monologue over an indie song will work today

I never liked scrubs that much. First two or so seasons were alright, but the slapstick and fast forward slide whistle humor was rough. I don’t see how any of that would remotely hold up today when there are so many really good shows are out. Scrubs had a place because streaming wasn’t athing yet.

Half this show was about gay, dick, and fart jokes. Will be an interesting reboot.

Not everything was like that. In fact, the first season had almost none of that stuff, arguably my favorite season before they started making sillier and sillier jokes.

I’ve never watched scrubs but if they rebooted the show with the same cast and characters but it was super serious and dramatic, I would definitely watch the original series and then the new one to compare because it would be so totally unique

Should be fun. Lean into the difference in experience as a mature professional. Get some perspective on why Dr. Cox is Like That.
