The fact that a car collects any data makes me raise an eyebrow… I prefer to stick with a car without any infotainment systems or Bluetooth even.

Yea because I don’t own a Nissan. It’s right there in their privacy policy saying that they may do so, so it stands to reason that they do.

Any time a capitalist says that they “may” do something profitable, I take that as an admission that they’re doing it.

It’s not even just Nissan. It’s any car manufacturer that records any type of data in cars that have microphones, cameras and GPS. Many companies don’t keep privacy policies updated, if they even have one at all. The enforcement of privacy policies is lacklustre and researchers have found multiple instances where data collection and privacy policies don’t match what companies actually do. Even big names like Apple and Google have been caught out doing this.

Unless the software is open source where everyone can check and see what it’s doing, or at absolute minimum it’s been audited by a 100% independent auditor, Do.Not.Trust.It.

Do not trust for profit companies with your data and privacy.

I just assume that any device with cameras and/or microphones are recording, saving, and sharing all info collected with whomever is paying. I’m willing to wager I’m right more often than I’m wrong.

All cameras are recording and all mics are hot. That’s always been the only safe assumption. In the Age of Little Brother, it may be the only sane one.

I completely agree, but I think it’s still interesting to see that Mozilla kind of exaggerated on this one.
