The point of work is not efficiency. If you don’t own your work and you can’t control your data, you are more vulnerable to exploitation. You may not be compensated fairly for your efforts.

There’s this guy, I forget his name, but he made a really big fuss about how workers need to control the means of production. Ideally we’d work using whatever means we like and be compensated fairly, but that’s not the nature of the markets.
