My god what a pathetic situation. trump and his freezing FEMA funds is only part of the problem–their own governor doesn’t give enough of a shit to do a damn thing about it; he’s a magat of course. There’s another article linked in the sidebar about him:

Governor Patrick Morrisey held a press conference today to look back on his first 100 days in office. Morrisey says he has made some “meaningful accomplishments” these last 100 days including the passing of 12 out of the 14 bills that he asked the legislature to consider this past session.

Those bills include banning cell phones in public schools, banning certain food dyes, ending state wide DEI programs, lessening regulations for data centers, creating “single-sex spaces” and more.

The topic of flooding was absent from the governor’s address today. The focus of the event was a retrospective of his time in office thus far and the disastrous flooding that killed three people and triggered major disaster declarations in six counties went unmentioned.

The sad thing about this is that probably for most of these folks this will only further confirm their views. Trump and his allies were pushing the idea that FEMA is corrupt and ineffective while Biden was still in office. The Trump admin will argue that this is FEMA’s fault, not Trump’s. His voters will eat it up.

Based on the total vote counts it looks like the vast majority of Dem voters left the county over the years while Rep voters were relatively stable.

          1976 Rep: 4,107 Dem: 10,557 almost 15,000 voters

          2008 Rep: 2,882 Dem: 3,430 about 6,200 voters

          2024 Rep: 4,310 Dem: 1,036 about 5, 300

I don’t really revel in the suffering of others, even when they voted against their own interests. There are billions of dollars spent manipulating these people.

They are victims of lack of education. They are Fox News Zombies. "Internationally, the US ranks 125th for literacy. 54% of Americans between 16-74 read below a sixth-grade level.”: Snopes This is by design, and this has been the American experience since the Reagan administration. This is why it has become more and more expensive for middle class people to get a University education. This is why Trump is going after Universities.

They are grown adults so while being manipulated is certainly a problem they are still responsible for falling for it at the individual level. Like how crime is often the result of poverty and other stresses, but we still hold (most) individuals responsible for their actions.

The community is entirely about mocking people who are facing the consequences of voting for those who make them suffer, in case you didn’t notice.

they mentioned nothing about prisons… they said we hold people responsible. the way we punish is beside the point

the point is that if someone does something bad because they’re the product of a poor environment, we still consider them responsible for their actions

Would say this would be a great moment to do some community outreach and help however I don’t know how many resources the democratic party in WV would have to spare and the Democrat who introduced legislation to help fund relief was voted down.

Natural disasters, combined with reduction of insurance, and lack of federal support may lead to much more of these situations.

The support net has been removed, now everyone can drop to the bottom.
