This is not exactly a new community, but it is one I created a few months ago and it is currently dead. Hopefully you guys help me with that:

!frisson@lemmy.world

This is a community for frisson inducing content.

What is frisson?

Frisson is a phenomenon that causes a sensation of chills or tingling on the skin of the lower back, shoulders, neck, and/or arms. It can be triggered by experiences with music, poetry, videos, beauty in nature or art, eloquent speeches, and the practice of science.

I feel like frisson is a personal thing, and not something I can hop into themed community and get an unlimited supply of. Thinking back on what has caused frisson for me, there’s always been a memory or emotion linked with the trigger.

If someone posted a song that effected them, it probably won’t do much for anyone else because they won’t be walking in with the same touching memory of OP’'s mother.

Perhaps the fun is in sharing what caused it to you instead of getting it yourself. I’d be curious to know what causes it to other people, after all it’s something that’s very intimate and rarely comes up in conversation.

I disagree with this. Sure, some things are personal, but some things are very likely to give you shivers. For example, this version of creep from The voice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC64ZPJXMGU

All 4 judges got shivers. Everyone to whom I showed this video got shivers. There is no “memory or emotion linked with the trigger”. It is just harmonies that for some reason, are shiver inducing.

I disagree with the other comments. I am subscribed to frisson on reddit and just subscribed here as well.

Honestly, the only thing I can think of that reliably triggers this sensation is fingernails on chalkboard.
