“I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear your summons over the screams of the Tibetan and Uyghur people” is the response we need but will never, ever see. For one of the biggest international bullies, China is pretty good at playing the victim.

      We’ll all be summoned.

In 2016, a commentator by The China Project predicted:

Opinion: How Xi Jinping can avoid becoming a dictator

“It may seem far-fetched, but [an electoral presidential] system would grant Mr. Xi the legitimacy and public support he craves to stay in power,” writes Ho Pin. “Without the legitimacy of an election, even a flawed one by Western standards, he would have to step down in 2022 or flagrantly ignore the party rules, and turn himself into a dictator who lives in constant fear of being toppled.”

      Seems it’s too late now.

Is there any proof that this is because of the word dictator or the whole comment? I really found nothing. Can anybody give me a source? I need more context.

This is the statement in the article:

“[The comments] are extremely absurd and are a serious infringement of China’s political dignity and an open political provocation,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a daily news conference.
