I also don’t get it. It might be a weird prank, but it’s still very much in the realm of pranks to claim something is happening to your SO. Seems everyone acted in good faith and the police was upset and had to take it out on someone.
That’s not just a “weird” prank. She exercised extremely poor judgment, her husband reacted in a very reasonable manner; she’s clearly responsible for the waste of resources due to creating the situation. There’s not enough data to tell if she’s just stupid, mean, or somewhere in between.
