I have two movie, one of them not exactly scary but it shook me up severely.
The French movie Irréversible (2002) is a thriller that tells the story of a guy taking revenge for the rape of his girlfriend. The story is told in reverse order and begins with the protagonist smashing the perpetrators head with a fire extinguisher and ends with him witnessing his girlfriend being raped.
For some stupid reason I had a phase in school were I was into edgy, gruesome french movies so I watched this. It left me kinda traumatised because of the rape scene. For some reason, right after I watched the movie we had a German lesson were we were asked what we did on the weekend. Stupid me thought it would be a good idea to tell the class about this movie and while retelling the stor, I bursted into tears…
The second movie is more fitting, I think: The Colour out of Space with Nick Cage is a lovecraftian horror movie that, for me, was so scary I could only watch it in bright daylight because I wasn’t even remotely able to anticipate what would happen next. With most horror movies I kinda figure out the “rules” and the style of the movie so that I kinda have an idea what might happen next so I’m less likely to be scared. Not with TCooS: The movie is all over the place and drastically changes its style and tone during the story. It’s great though and Nick Cage is completely crazy and off the rails in his role.
I don’t know if anyone in the world does this too, but here in Germany, (when not using dried egg) we just use boiled egg and cut it in slices with an Eierschneider 🤣
So it’s mostly about the shape so that you can put the egg on toast? That I can understand but I think I prefer fried egg on my toast 😬
Im not sure if it’s because I’m from Europe and it being not so popular here or because I’m a cretin but I don’t get poached eggs. Why would you take extra steps to prevent the egg from dissolving in the water when you can simply cook it inside it’s shell?

Ummm… Yes, Proton was already mentioned in this thread so I won’t repeat it. But I’m curious which problems you have with games on Linux or did you just repeat what was true 5 (?) years ago.
Don’t get me wrong: I tried gaming on linux when proton wasn’t even remotely in the pipeline and it was horrible impossible. When I first heard about proton I tried again and ran into issues with the first game I tried (Europa Universalis 4, the new Paradox launcher was broken at the time) so I jumped ship again. Then I tried again in early 2025 and haven’t looked back since then. There hasn’t been a single game I tried that didn’t work (although some games needed some tinkering but that’s where protondb comes to rescue). There is one game I’d like to play (The Crew 2) that doesn’t work because of it’s anti cheat. But apart from that: Great experience!

I think there were many people who voted for “no AI” who would’ve voted for “a little bit of ai” if they had the option.

My swiss hoster just started offering AI and says that their AI infrastructure is 100 % powered by renewables and the waste heat is used for district heating.
You could argue that LLM training in itself used so much energy that you’ll never be able to compensate for the damage, but I don’t know. 🤷

I don’t have an Ubuntu machine at hand but I’m almost 100 % sure (because I used it in the past) that you can manage repositories via GUI and activate backports by simply activating a checkbox.
Voll, ich find’s halt nur ein gutes Beispiel dafür, dass der Kapitalismus ein totalitäres System ist, das sogar Lebensbereiche durchdringt und bestimmt, die eigentlich von ihrer Idee her (in meinem Fall Diakonie) nicht-kapitalistisch sein wollen. Und was mich so schockiert, ist, dass man dann nicht sagt “Okay, Krankenstand + Personalkosten sind ein Problem für uns, lasst uns die schlechte Finanzierung des Sozialsystems kritisieren und zähneknirschend versuchen, das Beste draus zu machen”, sondern das neoliberale Narrativ der faulen ‘kranken’ Arbeitnehmer wird unreflektiert reproduziert.
Klarer Fall von “Es gibt kein richtiges Leben im falschen.”
Aaaalle Jahre wieder rufen die Chefs hinaus: “Ringt das Streikrecht nieeeder! Schaltet die verdi aus!”
