My parents claim there is rampant discrimination and racism towards Russians. They’re all hysterical about it, claiming that they need to stow away all their money in a russian bank before the German government starts persecuting them “like they did with the Jews” (yea, literal quote). I’m doubtful that it’s as bad as they claim 🤔

Even porn? I’ve had a discussion at work recently about how crazy it is that media conservation often overlooks porn as something of “no value”, so it becomes lost media almost instantly, especially now in the age of streaming.

But I bet that future anthropologists would be really interested in studying it!

Yeah, people want to learn about the topics that are currently hyped up / in demand from employers 🤷 Just being good in Java/Python/C++ doesn’t really cut it on a resume, you gotta have either a weird specialisation or claim skills in a currently hyped up technology.

I always love plugging the App Mealime when it comes to any sort of recipe or mealprep. Their vegan recipes are usually pretty tasty (and they look so good!!) Maybe browse around on there for a bit and see if anything catches your eye?

More people do it than you might think! I sit in an office of 8, there’s always someone either quietly beatboxing to themselves, doing minute long "uhhhrrmm"s or muttering movie quotes. I’m feeling exactly the same, I’m in a CBT Therapy group rn which feels double invalidating because everyone else seems to have the exact opposite problems.

I’m currently working through a book on Inter Familial Systems Therapy and it’s a much better fit - it works by assigning personas to specific problematic thought patterns and talking the issues out with those personas. Way more validating in my opinion, as it’s focused on being empathetic towards them and guiding them in a better direction.

100% Germany, my sister got hit with almost 3k€ for torrenting Young Sheldon 🤦

It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Many Software devs can be trusted to not do anything too stupid with their machines, but every person has blind spots and can be tricked. At the company I work at, the IT system is pretty permissive at what can and can’t be done, but the Admins do block installing programs that ask for too many permissions under the hood (like some custom drivers and things that want console access) or that simply aren’t allowed due to company policy (i.e. Postman, because it just sends too much information to the cloud). Even a well-meaning dev usually isn’t aware of all the details of a program they want to install or the company policies - there are too many to reasonably know at all times. So it’s easier to block stuff, and if someone really does need something they just ask and get it unblocked for themselves.

You can also never be sure that a dev isn’t doing anything malicious. Of course that’s rare, but when it happens the damage to all company projects is just too large.

It’s also not much of a hierarchy thing, the Admins are on exactly the same level as devs, their job is just a bit different.

Maybe Mealime? It’s mostly for optimizing grocery shopping by suggesting recipes that have the most overlap, but it does have the option to automatically filter recipes to have specific macros.

New Year’s was always my favorite holiday because I loved setting things on fire, but apparently I’m the kind of person now that gets a panic attack from the loud explosions. It sucks man

But also like, the end of the year is when you have to use up all the vacation days that you can’t take into the next year. At my work we get 30 vacation days per year but can only take 12 unused ones into the next year. I had to take Dec 30th-Jan 3rd off because I was still sitting on 15 unused days
