There are likely lots of improvements that can be made under the hood. I’m willing to bet that it depends on several aging libraries that could probably be swapped out for something better.

KeepassXC is bundled with a CLI tool. But it doesn’t have to do anything special for SSH. It’s ultimately just text and there are multiple ways to paste text into an SSH session.

I meant it quite literally. Another multi-billion dollar company needs to be willing and able to spend the same level of resources and time. Wal-Mart or Costco itself would have to be willing to produce their own hardware.

The largest barrier is the fact that the end user is expected to install the OS themselves. Having an OS work 100% of the time right out of the box with a default install is impossible. Windows and OSX have a huge advantage by being installed on the factory floor. The manufacturer guarantees that the drivers work for the hardware they decide to install and that the default applications on the OS work as they should.

Linux needs an equivalent to Microsoft or Apple that can put Linux on shelves at WalMart for average people that buy $600 desktops.

You should use whatever the majority of the team is using. If you want to use Linux then you need to make it a priority to find a team that has at least a few people using it. You don’t want to be the only person having issues setting up their local dev environment.

Ask it about historical facts and change the dates to something impossible. But state it as if it were already true.

It will give you an answer despite neither of these countries existing at that point in time and yet it should know when those countries were formed. You can get it to write fiction just as easily as non-fiction because it has no concept of facts, it’s all just probabilities. The only reason it’s able to tell you that the United States was founded in 1776 is because many people have repeated that fact on the internet. So there is a very strong association between the words forming the question and the answer.

And you can insist that the United States was not formed in 1776 and to try again. If you insist enough it will eventually give you a different date instead of telling you you are incorrect.

Have multiple projects running with some of them being live service or smaller in scope. I have a hard time believing they can’t balance it so that layoffs don’t happen with such regularity.

Popularity makes all forms of support infinitely easier. I’d struggle to come up with any technical reason that could be worth giving up the ability to easily google for issues or install software. That doesn’t mean I think you shouldn’t use other distros, just that I believe Ubuntu is the best choice for a default install targeting average people.

The music industry wants their license fees and people want to play using those special controllers. So it’s prohibitively expensive to make this type of game on top of the added burden of the hardware. It’s a miracle the game even exists as is.

Game developers don’t suck at optimizing their games. The people building the actual hardware just know better and have a vested interest in increasing performance. These sort of optimizations happen all the time. For example, AAA game developers regularly work with companies like Nvidia, which push out updates to their drivers for specific games.

So it’s not always as simple as making a change to their game engine, otherwise the change would be made there and not explicitly on the driver side. Computers are complex machines and people should hesitate to blindly call anyone incompetent over a few milliseconds of lag.

Learn to use Linux. It’s the only way to have your hardware under your control. Fuck Office… get rid of this piece of shit of software now.

Users aren’t really against using Linux, they don’t even know what OS they are running. The problems are always:

1. Having to install an OS. Very few people are comfortable with doing this and handling the driver issues that may arise.
2. Running familiar software or software that has no alternative/workaround (e.g. games with anti-cheat)

I’m mostly in the second camp. I have some Linux machines, but games keep my main machine on Windows. But the first camp will definitely keep the majority from ever being able to switch.

All of the discussion over copyright of AI is a complete waste of time. Given only a bit of human editing AI art is indistinguishable from art made in entirety by a person. It will be nothing but a “feel good” law that does nothing to help the artists AI has displaced. We should be focusing directly on helping artists or others maintain their livelihood.

Yeah. I thought this was the norm, so I don’t know why this is news. At my company everyone is a 3 or 4. A 5 literally means you’re going to be promoted to the next level. There’s absolutely no other way to get a 5 and promotions are obviously rare.

How would you identify text or images generated by AI after they have been edited by a human? Even after that, how would you know what was used as the source for training data? People would simply avoid revealing any information and even if you did pass a law and solved all of those issues, it would still only affect the country in question.

Devil’s advocate. It means that only large companies will have AI, as they would be the only ones capable of paying such a large number of people. AI is going to come anyway except now the playing field is even more unfair since you’ve removed the ability for an individual to use the technology.

Instituting these laws would just be the equivalent of companies pulling the ladder up behind them after taking the average artist’s work to use as training data.

It’s really no different than a service upping their subscription fee or a grocery store raising the price of eggs. There’s no law that says the price will remain the same forever. You can of course add it to the terms of a contract, but it’s at your (in this case Unity’s) own discretion.
