No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How far do you wear your daily shoes out before bothering to replace them?
1·20 days agoI start with a pair of good insoles, then as those wear down I buy another, and another, and so on until the shoe tread wears out or holes appear in them. If you buy some of those magic eraser pads, you can usually keep the outside of the shoes looking relatively new for a lot longer as well. I have some shoes right now that are going on ~1.5 years and I’ll probably get another 1.5 out of them.
Pro-tip: don’t buy the cheapest shoes you can if you can afford it. I used to buy $20 skate shoes and they would wear out in less than a year.

Cooking @lemmy.world•What condiments do you add to your breakfast sandwiches?
4·21 days agoOnce you acclimate to hotter sauces you can pick out some of the more soft notes. This one has some smokey aspects and I think some maple in it.

5·22 days agoDefinitely hot sauce of whatever type we have. I picked up some ghost pepper sauce from a holiday market the other month that is hot but also kind of sweet.

2·22 days agoYou’re right that it doesn’t have recoil and casings aren’t being ejected. It isn’t identical to hitting the range, but it does help build your aim which does translate a bit to the real thing. I don’t have infinite money for ammo (have ya SEEN the prices of a box of bullets lately?) so it was a nice compromise.

5·22 days agoOne of my wants last year was to hit the range more often. Sometimes that isn’t practical due to cost, time spent driving, etc.
I ended up getting a laser optic target for my 9mm. I can charge it, set it up at home wherever, and practice my aim. I feel like I have gotten better in a few months - or at least my grouping of shots is closer to where I want it to be. Highly recommend looking into one of them if you are at least pistol training.
I’m not saying anyone should get a vasectomy assuming it will be reversed, nor that doctors should counsel it that way. It should absolutely be approached as permanent.
My point was narrow in that for people who are done having kids or strongly don’t want them, vasectomy is a responsible alternative to refusing condoms. There are -also- options like sperm banking or sometimes reversal, if you want to take that gamble. Acknowledging those options isn’t the same as recommending reliance on them.
We agree on the issue though: it shouldn’t be treated casually or as temporary. Beyond that, I don’t think there’s much left to argue.
I think we’re going to have to agree to disagree here. You obviously have very strong opinions about this.
Yes, a vasectomy is meant to be permanent, yet you -can- reverse it. I wouldn’t personally consider it a temporary solution, but some people might.
You can have it reversed within ~6 years and regain a high percentage of fertility. You also have the option of storing semen for later in a sperm bank.
You have options. Sperm quality also degrades over the lifetime of the man, so saving some from your earlier years may have less chance of genetic defects.
You don’t want a kid? Man up and get a vasectomy.
Took ~2 days of discomfort afterward and now I’m shooting vegan cream pies all day long.
I have had disagreements with people on Lemmy and not been downvoted. People here are more focused on debate and whether you are arguing in good faith.
Reddit was going downhill. Conversations are near impossible. You have to agree with the hive mind or you get down voted into oblivion. The monetization of the platform. The gamification of the platform. The AI bot problem.
There are too many to count. Lemmy is still small, and while it has its own problems, is not completely fucked yet.
