Read the article & comments. Seems like they were already kinda heading in that direction anyway, but I doubt it was due to just scraping by so much as the ever-present “maximizing profits” business mandate.
Since I invariably wind up getting “name suits” types of comments, here’s the explanation behind it:
Around the turn of the millennium, I was trying to come up with a username to use on a particular site that had a shortish character count limit for usernames. My goal was something related to the fact that I would often be making my points in arguments with “holier-than-thou” types by taking what they were saying, and turning it on its head so the offensive stuff was directed back at them.
I also happened to learn shortly beforehand that many years ago “'ape” was somewhat commonly used as a verb to mean “imitate” or “copy.”
I’m sure you can figure the rest out.

Nah, he’s black & white - I got him from Gateway… Well, the company that licensed the brand name from Acer a few years back, anyway.
ETA: Gateway was well known for their B&W cow-spotted branding on their boxes playing on the fact they were based out in the middle of midwest farm country.
Saving on food & litter costs will help, tho.
I think the shareholders will be doing that for us in the coming year.
Which is why after nearly 30 years, Crucial will stop selling RAM to consumers - they’re converting consumer-oriented operations to focus just on commercial customers.
Yeah, uh… I’ll have some of whatever this dude’s having.
I mean… my cat barely remembers that I feed him, and you expect me to believe there’s LPDDR5 in there?!? I think my first computer (a Commodore VIC-20 with 5 KB of RAM) was more powerful than my cat’s brain.
Never heard of it, which must be part of why my brain inserted an L so I read “nuldisco” at first. Was curious what that’d sound like…
Are you sure about that?

China@sopuli.xyz•China imposes value-added tax on contraceptive drugs and devices - including condoms - to reverse plunging birth rates that threaten to slow economy
5·16 hours agoTypical authoritarian mindset: try to force what you want people to do instead of finding out why they don’t want to and addressing the actual problems. They could impose a VAT of 100%, and it’ll still be cheaper and easier than having an actual child - especially in a culture known for its 996 work schedule.

Maybe they meant GTA?
Guess that’s why it’s still sitting on the store shelf even after reducing the price.
Very first thought I had. So nice to see others with some culture here.

Because the things you describe as working well are emotionless & subject only to the laws of physics. Humans are not nearly so straightforward or consistent, and take much more effort to understand and work with.
Unfortunately for us all, however, AI will make us all much easier to manipulate before long.
