In case you’re interested in (co-)moderating any of the communities that I created, you’re welcome to message me.

I also have the account @Novocirab@jlai.lu. Furthermore, I own the account @daswetter@feddit.org, which I hope to make a small bot out of in the future.

  • No expert on CPUs and coolers, but

    • begin by checking levelness of the plate and functionality of the mounting mechanism. I suspect that if they got badly warped, all work could be futile.
    • when trying to bend things back, apply some external heat to them first (duh) [edit: dubious, see another user’s comment below] and pay care not to impair the levelness of the plate (duh)
    • personally I would only try it on a CPU and motherboard that are old and cheap enough for me to be okay with them breaking. If you don’t have them, perhaps there’s some PC re-use initiative in your vicinity which would either accept and try your cooler, or give out corresponding components to you.

  • Besides finding better ways to positively recognize bots, we also need to invent ways that make it quicker to realize “false alarm, this user is actually legit”.

For example, users should have an option to pin posts and comments to their profile, and I suggest to provide at least two different ‘tabs’ for this in the public profile: One tab just for the usual “posts and comments you would like the world to see”, but another tab for “some recent, complex interactions between you and other (established) users that in your eyes prove quite well you’re not a bot”. The purpose is simply to save others, worried that you could be a bot, some time of going through your posts in search of signs for humanity. Yes, this can be gamed to some degree (what can’t?). However, at a technical level, the feature is little more than a copy of the “pin” feature that would be very nice to have anyways, so we can get an appreciable improvement in our ability to tell users from bots for very little programming effort.

  • I didn’t know about the web interfaces of Invidious instances. Definitey looks cool, and this redicrect domain is handy to quickly find a working instance.

Still, FreeTube has a couple of major advantages. One is that even if your go-to Invidious instance becomes unusable, your local FreeTube configuration (subscriptions, blocks, ricings, you name it) remains 100% in effect, because FreeTube just picks a different instance. Even when Google again makes all Invidious instances dysfunctional, FreeTube may still be usable by accessing YouTube directly. Also, FreeTube likely has A LOT more options—the settings page is quite sizeable. Finally, I find it increasingly nice that it’s a standalone client separate from your browser. It makes it more deliberate to start watching videos, so that I’m less likely to go on senseless watching sprees; and conversely, when I’m watching useful videos, I’m less likely to interrupt them by going to some irrelevant website.

The article doesn’t say that. This is what it says:

parts of southeast Brooklyn and Queens where Cuomo won comfortably. [My emphasis.]

You’re not doing the bare minimum to arrive at an accurate picture of things. This makes this discussion a waste of time.

For anyone who’s actually curious, this map shows the results for each election district.
