  • I was advised by a group therapist, when having “cold feet” about commitment in a relationship, to just think about how bad the alternative might be. She had a friend who had reservations about getting married, and then thought not getting married would be stressful too, so she went ahead with the marriage. It was terrible advice, especially from a therapist providing guidance for some very troubled people. The only good reason to commit to a relationship is because you really want it, not because you’re afraid of what will happen otherwise!

It’s ok to think liberalism is generally dumb (I totally agree with you there), but in most respects this post really sucks. It is real dumb to hate people just for their race or ethnicity, for example. That’s one of the dumbest things you can do. You are going to hate someone just because they are born to certain parents? That makes no sense at all.

  • You probably don’t actually have NPD (although there’s a small chance you do). The majority of diagnoses of personality disorders and mental health disorders are not realistic, but just labels given by a deeply disturbed medical system that looks at the tremendous pain caused by bad social and economic conditions and blames the person as being “ill” instead of identifying problems in their environment. The world we live in is rampant with narcissism – if you happen to personally reflect that sometimes, that makes you more normal than abnormal.

I’m guessing your actual problem is that you’re stressed, for reasons such as: an unhealthy upbringing, a shitty job, poor educational resources, lack of money, low-quality healthcare, lack of supportive relationships, uncomfortable living arrangements, etc. – take your pick and think about what’s relevant to you. It is a crazy fucking world we live in, and just in order to get by, people often adopt narcissistic and selfish ways of thinking and acting even if that is not how they feel in their heart of hearts.

I don’t know what age you are either (and I’m not asking you to tell me), but the younger you are, the more likely you are to get caught up in misleading notions that you’re crazy because people are giving you shit information. Just work on being healthy and improving your life and treating others with respect. You do not need a label, nor do you need to worry about what people will think of you because of said label. Fuck labels. You’re a human being. Doctors may be able to give useful information about illnesses with evident physical markers such as diabetes or multiple sclerosis, but in most cases, they have no business talking about what’s in your head.

  • Essays could be nice, but I don’t know any off-hand. That said, I myself am an anarchist thinker. I don’t have to be published or be considered “great” in order to know anything.

It’s not a fallacy. I’m not side-stepping; I’m confronting your concerns directly. I’m not saying that anarchist groups never disintegrate because of petty issues, nor am I saying that anarchist groups are always immune to these problems. What I am saying is that it is possible for such groups to do well, depending.

It’s just simple logic. If you’ve ever experienced a successful negotiation and compromise situation with another human being, with whom you had some conflicting interests, you’re aware that it can be done. Extrapolate it to more people, who happen to be anarchists, and there you have it. It just depends on how able and willing everyone involved is, in connection with the particular problems that they’re having.

You’ll have problems in literally any and every group of people, but how good people are at dealing with them varies a great deal.

I understand your cynicism, given the state of the world, but it’s inaccurate and also discouraging to others if you go about stating things like “But petty small-scale little shit where it’s managing annoyances and small grievances, I don’t think non-authoritarian decision making can solve.” It’s not always, but it can, sometimes. You know what I mean?

  • People who support the modern Republican party in the US or the Nazi ideology anywhere don’t get to keep their people card

Holy yikes!!! You’re advocating taking about half of all voters in the US and no longer considering them as human? Not everyone who gets caught up in these ideologies understands that they are toxic. Ignorance, stupidity, brainwashing, etc. are very real. It is likely the vast majority of Republicans who don’t understand that they’re doing something that hurts people (often including themselves).

Theoretically, could there be some form of ‘quarantining’ that I would support? Maybe. But dehumanizing them is most certainly wrong. A lot of these people are just confused, and they do have good qualities as well as bad, and are very much people. Please take a closer look at what you’re saying.

  • Of course plenty of anarchist thinkers have thought about this. Of course non-authoritarian decision-making can solve small issues, if it’s done right. If people give up on organizing because they can’t figure out these sorts of problems, they’re simply not very committed to the process, and it is that non-committal attitude rather than the small problems themselves that can poison and destroy a community.
