I don’t know if we can create AGI. Saying that something is impossible because we haven’t done it yet is disingenuous, though, and has been proven wrong countless times throughout history. None of this has anything to do with religion, by the way.
I’m not trying to defend fascists in any way shape or form. I’m just saying that unfortunately they’re pretty much everywhere these days. And if you go to Japan to avoid racism, you’re in for a surprise.
Twenty years ago the Republicans didn’t work hard to destroy their country. Neither did they take orders from Moscow. Things have definitely changed.
So, which country would you recommend people go to? Like, where there’s no racism?
The current generation of LLMs won’t take over the world. It will take several more breakthroughs of a similar magnitude to get anywhere close to AGI. That may still be decades away but it could also happen next Tuesday.

Syphilis brought on Victorianism and centuries of sexual and societal repression. Antibiotics and birth control then led to the more liberal politics we saw in the 1960s and 70s. Likewise I’m convinced that AIDS had been a major contributor to the resurgence in conservativism in the last 40 years or so. My hope is that an end to HIV will help swing the pendulum back in the other direction.

You’re giving them far too much credit. While these people like to think of themselves as super-geniuses, they can’t think any farther than the tips of their noses.
