  • I’m in CA. Can’t get much more legal than here. I’ve had multiple try to argue me out of using weed in favor of insert prescription drugs here. The prescription ones never worked or had too many side effects and they just don’t care to hear it.

It’s definitely doc dependent, but my experience is that the “mainstream” doctors your insurance covers are generally not onboard with it. The “doctors” that gave out prescriptions for medical cards were always some dude in a tshirt, that asked like 2 questions and gave a recommendation.

  • I know you don’t want advice. I know, but, there are meal replacements, that aren’t nothing but sugar, corn and soy crap, and are much more nutritionally complete. May be worth looking into them. Huel and Soylent (sold in Target for sure) are the first that come to mind. I understand if your reply is “thanks” just wanted to throw that out there, because I feel your pain.

I have ALL kinds of GI issues. The latest GI I saw, after waiting like 2 years during covid (had one appt before lockdowns, and then had to wait), and then another like 4 months after I called to book an appointment, ran a HIDA scan, which came back as low/abnormal. His answer? Oh, well it’s too close to normal to do surgery, so just take miralax and don’t eat fatty foods. Gee thanks, why didn’t I think of that, professionally trained guesser extortionist? When asked if there were going to be long term effects from taking a laxative, like, idk making constipation worse, his answer? IDK, maybe?

    Good luck

  • for starters people around here tend to misinterpret what you’re saying accidentally or willfully, far more than my experience with reddit previously.

Honestly, this is what has driven me away. No matter how innocuous something I say is, there are a bunch of “well, askshewly” asshats to argue an irrelevant part of your statement, or start the “whataboutism” shit. It’s exhausting, and frankly, takes all the fun out of it.

That and the bots reposting reddit shit. I may as well go back to reddit. Plus Narwhal is still working…

  • They don’t prescribe it here in America either.

Hell, I’ve had multiple doctors tell me to stop using it, when I say it’s the ONLY thing that has ever made me mostly migraine free. They usually pretend to say it out of concern over long term effects. It always reads as “hey I know you had daily, chronic migraines, that no prescription drug even touched, but, yeah, you need to stop doing the only thing that has ever worked. How are we going to sell you more drugs, with horrible side effects, that don’t help?”

I’m very similar to you (I do actually love running though) in that I enjoy being good at sports, and challenging myself. I’m going to agree with the person above.

I’m usually one of those perky happy looking runners, and average an 8-8:30 pace on my big elevation change/most taxing runs. It hasn’t even been hot (by my standards) here, but it’s been EXCEPTIONALLY humid for my local (we were just preparing for a hurricane, which we never have here).

I’m STRUGGLING. My average pace on my normal routes is easily 0:30-1:00 per miles slower, and I feel like I’m working a LOT harder. It’s killing me to be slower. It’s messing with my head/confidence, but it’s totally normal. I have to keep telling myself that.

There was one day, immediately after the “hurricane” passed that was significantly cooler, and more importantly, nearly no humidity, and I was FAST, and it was so easy. Just keep with it, you’ll probably start setting PRs once the weather shifts to cooler/less humid.

  • Definitely an orb weaver. I have a love hate relationship with them. They are beautiful and build beautiful webs. They happen to build those webs in the worst places though. I run early in the morning, so I’m frequently the first through the paths/walkways. Once the weather gets a bit warmer they start really building huge webs from one tree to another, across my running paths. For the last couple months there has not been a single run where I didn’t end up covered in their homes/them. Face full of web and the accompanying spider is NOT fun.
