Canada@lemmy.ca•Wake up, Canada: Wayne Gretzky is MAGA
3·18 hours agoYeah, I’ve started getting (more) annoyed at the people that say "you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
Mostly because fuck anyone who is MAGA. But I’ve also always found it to be a stupid quote. Gretzky was more of a set up player than a goal scorer. In the hockey world, idiots quote him as an excuse for making a pass.
He often skates around the offensive zone in a style called “mohawking”. Basically his feet are heels in, toes out. This way he’s always facing everyone. He circles until he finds a moment to strike, then snipes a shot, or slips through the defense. It’s really unique.
I imagine a highlight reel will pull this up.
Every team has some fun talent to watch. Kaprizov plays a shifty game like no one else. McDavid is so fast. Celebrini is on a tear.
Also, there are a number of legends still playing. Ovechkin is the all time goal leader and still scoring at 40 years old. Crosby is 38 and still a top tier talent. It’s crazy to play a game that physical for 20 years.
Aside from the config this looks cool
I bought a Retroid 3+ a while ago. It was an interesting experiment, but ultimately a pain in the ass to configure.
Ideally I just want to select a rom or game and play. I really don’t enjoy spending hours in settings and tweaking every detail to get a have to run decently. I don’t need AAA, but GameCube and PS2 would be cool.
Is that a thing? Or am I doomed to hangout in RetroArch settings?
I worked at a place that would give at most a 10% raise. That number was virtually impossible to get. We had so many developers that just wanted competitive pay or something close. So many quit, resulting in 1of 2 scenarios:
-
We rehired the developer a few months later at 2x the salary. This cuased months of delays and expenses to their projects.
-
We hired a replacement dev with less experience at 2x the salary. This costs months of time to ramp up.
Both scenarios pissed off our clients and resulted in lost sales.

Does it get noticable hot?
Yeah, it was an impulse buy that worked out for a few years. Now that I need to replace it, I’m sure there are better options. Carhartt makes good stuff. I’ll check them out.
I wear under layers if I know that I’ll be out for long, thermals and what not. Heated feels pretty nice though.

Casual Conversation@piefed.social•If you could change one rule of your favorite sport, what would it be?
5·26 days agoI would ban ads during the game. A couple of years ago the NHL added digital ads to the boards, effectively making them a green screen with moving ads during play. It’s practically made the sport unwatchable. There’s also the obnoxious banner ads where the score is, and the sponsor name drops from commentary, etc. I hate it.

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Currently using Google Fi. What's the next best thing?
9·1 month agoI’ve used both. US mobile is much cheaper. It’s also monthly or annual. $220 for a year of unlimited data with hotspot is the best deal I’ve found. If you don’t need more than a couple gigs of data, you can go as cheap as $10/mo.
I won’t swear by US mobile, but so far, no regrets from me.

152·1 month agoWhen Bush Jr was president I was absolutely confounded by how people could support him. Then I got older and could see how people don’t know how to do basic research.
With Trump, you just watch a speech or see his social media posts. It should be immediately apparent to anyone that he’s a spineless, lying, idiot.
Trying to comprehend how such a loser remains in power hurts my brain.

I recently tried duo lingo. I have a pretty strong background in Spanish, but want to brush up. It became apparent very quickly that the app is not about learning so much as keeping you in it. The lessons don’t make a ton of sense, and after not using app for a week, it demoted me to just 8 words that you would learn in your first class (hombre, el, agua, tu, etc.). There is no way to skip ahead.

This was the exact image that went through my mind.
