I mean, I was considering posting it in the regular memes community, because I do genuinely find it humorous that humanity scaled up cow milk production, when oat milk production is just significantly simpler, to the best of my knowledge.

But I didn’t want to tone down the ridiculousness of some of the steps involved in industrial cow milk production, because that’s kind of the point of the meme format. Non-vegans would likely be so pre-occupied with that, that they’d miss the joke, which is why I decided to post it here instead.

If you want to argue against some of the points, do feel free. But please do understand that this is a shitty meme. I can’t fit a whole dissertation into it, to cover each and every nuance.

Yeah, the top-half is simplifying a bit, because well, it is a meme, but apparently, there’s also just multiple ways to do it.

Some companies do mix oat, water, amylase, oil, sugar and whatnot.
Whereas the oat milk I have at home, genuinely just lists as ingredients: water, oat, salt.
In the descriptive text, they do tell, though, that they ferment the oats.

i assure you, every oat milk you have purchased has used enzymes to convert the starches to sugars. otherwise it would taste like paper.

    My oat milk gymnastics:

    • Shamefully ask for oat milk
    • Nobody cares but I feel weak for being unable to handle standard milk any more
    • Why can’t I have soy? It tastes bad but it’s more common
    • Wonder if the people behind me are judging me for asking for long winded flat white
    • Wonder if I’m holding up other people’s orders because the barista has to clean out the milk jug to clean it between milk and oat juice
    • taste it and then go “I guess it’s not so bad”
    • small relief knowing it probably can’t be off unlike the few times I’ve had sour milk
    • coffee still makes me go to the bathroom, just less violently

I mean, that sounds like you’re lactose-intolerant, so I definitely wouldn’t feel bad about it.
