Kismet Blade - Losing My Edge

    August Photos

Phenomenal shave today. The edge on this blade has dulled enough that I don’t get BBS everywhere on a 2-pass shave without chasing it in those areas that are difficult to get to. But this is not a problem for a 3-pass shave, and that dullness ensures that I’m not getting a shave so close that tomorrow morning’s shave is compromised.

I used my normal lathering method today; the one tried by u/sgrdddy on one of his videos. My goal is to get 3 rich lathers from a single load with those lathers built on the face and not in the brush. I absolutely nailed it today with lather that would barely stay on the razor and would fall off if I gave gravity a chance. My lather consistency on each pass was the same and I certainly had enough lather in the brush to build a good fourth pass. The SV Beta 4.3 base has a wonderful feel when built this way. It is every bit as luxurious as the price tag would imply.

Oh. I added a link to my album of photos for this month if you’re interested.

Enjoy your weekend! Hope your weather is nicer than mine. 31°C. 80% humidity.

The Twenty-Sixth Day Of Weckoning is upon us

    • Brush: Rubberset 400-3 with a 26 mm unbleached Zenith boar knot at 56 mm loft
    • Razor: Weck Sextoblade Med Prep
    • Blade: Kismet Rostfrei, Polymer beschichtet (32)
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Oceana
    • Post Shave: Ralon – Original
    • Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. – Island Man

    Three-pass afternoon shave at reasonable temperatures. I had almost forgotten the feeling 🥵. The heat dome over central Europe is finally dissipating and the rain brought cold air. Rain++;

    ䷀ General Notes

Kinda-not-really-a slurry lather today as we see if the bowl can work with this method some how.

    ䷀ Razor and Blade Notes

    (Timeless - Stainless Steel .68 - Open Comb ::: Gillette - Nacet - M ‹524 uses›)

Same: First pass has some tugginess to it. But no irritation that lasts longer than a little tuggy stroke. Latter passes feel fine and give a reasonably close shave. 3 pretty quick passes.

Razor and Blade Performance/Comfort Rating: 2 out of 5 (Okay)

    ䷀ Soap Notes

(Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag - White Label)

I just love all the aspects of this scent!

Scent Strength: 6/10, nicely present during shaving.

Lather… Not as wet as a normal slurry lather, so I had to add more water. Third pass looked gloriously hydrated.

But all passes were slick and workable.

Again, the bowl doesn’t seem to offer much that’s positive to the slurry lather method.

    Hydration: Perfect (for me)

    • 3 sec load with a Very Wet brush
    • = 4 passes of lather

Bowl: Roger Quintero 3D Printed Bowl
I use the XL version of this bowl.

    ䷀ Brush Notes

    (Zenith - r/wetshaving MOAR BOAR B35/508A XL ‹49 uses›)

Same: Comfortable soft tips that do flex some, but that are supported by a base with strong backbone. As with all young boars, I look forward to the tips splitting with more uses and getting softer with use.

    During the Shave Feel:
      Cheeks: Felt blade but comfortable
      Neck: Felt blade but comfortable
    After the Shave Closeness:
      Cheeks: Close Shave
Neck: Several hairs are showing some tip length (still a pretty good shave)
