Today I learned the word Compeer!

noun: compeer

a person of equal rank, status, or ability. Peer

alternative: a close friend or comrade

//

The context was “My condolences go out to his family, wife & children. I’m so sorry, my compeer. Miss you already.” This was from one professional wrestler regarding another who passed away suddenly.

Another example sentence could be “He was more knowledgeable on the topic than most of his compeers

This is a word which seems to have fallen out of favor in modern days, but is simple enough that people will likely know what you mean from context clues if you use it. The fact that it is a bit of a dated word means it will fit nicely in to how I talk when I am running a TTRPG for my kids. That said, I work in a large department at work and will for sure be referring to my co-workers who are at the same level as me as my compeers sometime in the next 24 hours, so I think I can get some use of it in my every day life as well.
