Communism is when no golf.
Socialism is when mini golf.
I’ve played Mini Golf with a wide variety of people. It’s amazing fun to see fully grown adults with brightly colored putters getting angry at a windmill and forgetting absolutely all of their problems for a few hours.
So if socialism is mini-golf, bring on the fucking mini golf :)
Socialism: it’s a party™!
Can I put in a good word for disc golf? Can be played in what is for the most part a completely normal park. A park with more of its natural tree and bush coverage than most parks would have, even, since the obstacles are part of the game.
Anarchism is when disc golf.
Disc golf is based af. Incredibly low profile
I think the only issue (which is completely surmountable) is that while the space is being used for disc golf it can’t be used for anything else.
Just make sure the shared space has time allocated to that activity though, and should be all gravy.
I think that’s somewhat true, but less true than most other activities. Much less true than team sports like football (any of the sports anyone calls football) or cricket. It’s quite easy and normal to go for a walk through a park where people are playing disc golf. You’d never do that down the middle of a football game. Even regular golf, because of the greater distances involved and higher risk if you get hit, walking through the course (if it’s permitted at all) is not an especially comfortable prospect.
It’s certainly not something that should be taking up all the space in every park, but having 2 or 3 courses in a large city? Completely reasonable.
Absolutely. And as you say, a disc golf course is far more natural than baby ball golf.
My area has a disc golf site at the beginning of a hiking trail. Only a few trees were removed, and none of the ground has been flattened or dug up. It’s awesome, and the fact that there are natural obstacles just add to the game.
Good, golf is a ridiculously stupid waste of space and water.
Just settle for mini-golf, comrade.
I like how these giant golf courses need to have 10 gardeners per acre, while these communist/socialist-era 40 years old mini golf concrete courses can have 20 people playing per acre, withstand a tsunami, and you have way more fun.
Also actually having to fetch the ball so the environment isn’t being polluted.
It wasn’t before, but we should add that to the manifesto
Oh no! Anyway…
Does anyone actually play golf for fun? I always thought it was an old timey version of linkedin style networking.
I play for fun, often by myself. I’ve never encountered a more challenging sport before, and it gives me a lot of time to be alone with my thoughts, while also getting some sunshine and exercise. It’s peaceful and cool. Okay, it’s not all that peaceful if you’re hitting a terrible game, but it can be, and it is so rewarding when you finally start playing well. It takes so much time and dedication to be a good golf player. It also takes a lot of honesty, especially with yourself.
but have you ever asked yourself if your sport, your past time, a recreation, deserves hundreds of millions of water?
“In 2019, the county reported 659 million total gallons used between its six courses. That figured jumped to 827.7 million in 2020, then sank back down again to 663 million gallons in 2021. That’s enough water to support about 10,750 Utahns.”
edit: Love the downvoter who can’t speak up in response…
Nope. I live where it rains 9-12 months out of the year. There is no shortage of water here.
And the historic racism and classism doesn’t bother you either, obviously.
Dude, all of history is plagued with racism and classism. We live in a more equal time now than ever before. So no, I’m not going to boycott an activity that brings me happiness because of the past. Besides, the places I go aren’t racist or classist, so it would be counterproductive to boycott businesses that are progressive just because some other businesses in the past weren’t.
obviously.
Goal posts go brrrr
i sure hope you arent typing this from a phone or computer made using slave/child labor…
I played it once with friends in my 20s for fun, invited by them. Was more the hanging out that was fun, but I didn’t hate it. I suppose it’s also a sport you can be a bit drunk for… though I guess golf cart driving drunk might still be dangerous.
The driving range is always fun!
Golf as a sport is a boring sport for chumps, rich assholes, and idiots.
I worked at a bank a couple of years ago and we had a little team building outing to the local golf course. I had way more fun than I expected, and if someone invited me to join them golfing I’d certainly go again, but I’m not sure I’d go on my own
I golf casually. It’s fun when it’s about walking outside and chilling with friends or family.
The absolute horror
COMMUNISM INTENSIFYING
D’ya promise?!?!
NO
Golfing Down
Amazing scene
Good
Golf corses are the tumors of the cancer known as the bourgeoisie. They’re a waste of space, water, and soil resources. They’re damaging to local ecologies that we Terraform to make more like southern Scotland. The cost of participation is high before we even take into consideration that private golf courses have added cost and systemic racism built into their admissions system.
If golf dies as the lower classes awaken to the realities of the ecological terror the bourgeoisie have waged against them, fucking good. There are other activities to do that are less resource intensive. Including disc golf if you absolutely must turn a casual stroll into an act of conquest
I’m reminded of the movie Falling Down, only that guy was accidentally slipping into fascism. Still, his righteous anger towards a golf course feels right.
Promise ;(?
Checks out. I had to run past a golf course for an event and I shouted “GOLF ISNT A REAL SPORT - GET OVER IT!” as I ran past.
He says like that is a bad thing
