I feel like the continued growth of the power conferences has ultimately been bad for the conference system. Watching NC State’s historic and improbable 5-games-in-5-days run through the ACC Tournament reminded me of how ridiculous it is to have that many teams in a tournament that large and how stacked the bracket is designed to keep the path easy for the top schools. Maybe it’s rose-colored glasses but the Tournament seemed so much better when it was held over 3 days. They claimed expanding would strengthen the conference but it seems like it’s leading to its demise instead.
