I was Xiaomi + LineageOS user for 5 years before bought an iPhone and using it for a year.
My experience is shit so far. Simplicity is good but not for me. I don’t even think iOS is a good OS. Like I shouldn’t open the app to let iOS understand I really read that message. I can’t even rotate the screen to the direction I want.
My only excuse is camera. I even tried Galaxy 23 (or maybe 22, not sure) and don’t liked its camera. Is it placebo effect or what? Is there a really an alternative Android with better or equivalent camera?
Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, I’m not super up to date on cameras in phones. Top android contenders would probably be Samsung, Pixel, and Sony. So I’d probably look at photo comparisons from there.
I like reviews from Mr. Mobile and TheUnlockr when it comes to camera comparison, as they usually put up a two or four way comparison of the top brands.
As far as coming from iOS, photos depends on both the lens and the software, if you like iPhone photos, that’s not to say you won’t like another, but they’re not going to look exactly like that because different companies use different processing in the background.
Software differs here I guess. I’ll check newer versions.
Google’s Pixel phones are supposedly really good. And they run stock Android.
But DXO Mark has a handy ranking, here: DXO Mark Phone Camera Rankings
MKBHD has published the results of this year’s blind comparison of smartphone … https://mezha.media/en/2022/12/22/mkbhd-has-published-the-results-of-this-year-s-blind-comparison-of-smartphone-cameras-pixel-is-back-again/amp/
Might be wrong here as this was years ago that I read about it, but the reason android has a reputation for having a “shit camera” even when the hardware is normally miles better than Apples is because companies tend to favour iOS users (e.g Snapchat) so usually the developers on android don’t implement the camera right, and instead make it screenshot the image on screen. I may be wrong but I think the pixel devices may have better support compared to other Androids when it comes to apps like instagram, Snapchat etc.
Kind of off-topic, but second your dislike of iOS. I got an iPad at some point but after about an hour decided I was returning it: That device was so “locked-down”, I couldn’t stand it.
I really love my iMac tho (haven’t booted into Windows in months). 🤷♂️
apples stuff would be so much better if they didn’t lock it down it’s honestly insane
Your problem was Lineage OS.
Newer Android phones have binary drivers for their camera sensors. Other boundaries will work, but not to the full extent.
Google Pixel with stock firmware is probably what you want.

While you’re at it can you recommend an iPhone with the customizability of an android?
Yes. If I could remove builtin applications, use the browser I want, opt-out from telemetry; yes.
Yeah, an Android lol.
What’s up with the rotate thing?

Yeah I agree! Used iPhone in past, switched to android a few years back and now recently switched to /e/OS and I’m not looking back at using a Googled Android or iPhone. Considering getting a Pixel to install GrapheneOS but hate giving money to google to get a more private experience.
on an off note, use links starting with a bang “!” without the “http(s)://“ this allows users to be forwarded via their instance.
