Interesting. You hear loads of stories of boots getting their shit chewed out by their officers but I rarely see many stories from the perspective of the officer. I guess that’s probably just a result of the officer:grunt ratio in general. I’d like to read more of them.

Speaking of which, is there a c/militarystories yet? I liked those on reddit.

My senior drill instructor said he liked my tenacity when I graduated. That was it. He was a man of few words.

Or they know bragging about it on the Internet without rank to protect them will get them dogpiled.

I could just have been commanded by some softies, but officers don’t generally have the constitution to get personally attacked. Think about it, they literally wrote the rules that say enlisted can go to jail for shit talking them.

One could certainly note that those rules started when enlisted vs commissioned was peasant vs aristocrat.

The podcast What A Hell Of A Way To Die talks about this from first person perspectives on both sides a lot, and is generally pretty great all around.

One of my worst days in basic was the rappel tower. I didn’t shave that morning because prior to basic I barely grew any facial hair. Of course I stupidly said “this recruit didn’t have enough time to shave”.

Wrong fucking answer. Not only did they absolutely fuck me with bullshit exercise but I had to run around the rappel tower in circles in my skivvies screaming “NOT ENOUGH TIME TO SHAVE SIR!”

This all went down prior to me even getting rigged up. It was brutal day for my legs.

No, as soon as they are on you it’s already too late. In fact by the end of training I would volunteer to the quarter deck just to “get it out of the way” sometimes 🤣
