Since the federation the comment sections got so inflammatory. Literally everything gets turned into some political “capitalism bad” or “the west bad” discussion. It made Lemmy very annoying for me to use…

Just block the users that do this, and there will be a instance blocking feature soon too
Personally I chose this instance so I wouldn’t randomly get defederated from other instances and I would have to switch to another instance if this happened.
Why should I play wack-a-mole everytime I like to read comments? Just remove that cesspool all togheter. Do you really benefit from anything on hexbear? Go over there and find a community you would really miss, and then show me. Please.
Also this instance is already blocking things like exploding-heads and lemmygrad
If i cant access their gardening community from here i will literally kms. 😭
Nop, I can read lemmygrad posts and comments.
I too would like to be in control whos comments I read and whos not to. So no, pleas do not defederate. If you want it managed for you, beewag would be the place.
You can join their instance
Guess what? It’s managed for you here. And everywhere. Every place defederates with some other place. The only way to have what you want is to run your own instance and never defederate.
How could I find out whit which places a instance defederated
At the bottom of the webpage for each instance is a link that says “Instances” If you click on that it shows all of the instances that are federated first. Then below that is the list of blocked instances. Easiest way to look is by doing “ctrl + f” and searching for “blocked” and that will normally get you to that list the fastest.
You can see this list whether you are a member or not of that instance. You just need to make sure you go to the actual instance and are not viewing it from your “home” instance account.
Well as a leftist yes I would miss some communities from them like the news and memes
Comments like this around make me chuckle. Especially if you look and see the list of blocked instances already from a place where people try to claim they don’t want a place that defederates.
Pretty certain every single instance defederates with some other instance. So if you really don’t want to defederate, then you’d have to make your own instance and never defederate from any other place.
I checked earlier and this instance has not defederated from any other so what are you talking about lol
Scroll down on this page: https://discuss.tchncs.de/instances
the 70+ instances that are blocked just magically showed up after you “checked”?
i used the defed.xyz website because i read about it and that didnt show any defeds, now it does show the defederated servers in the “returned error” section.
Yeah, I kind of agree. Some of them are amusing though, even if they sometimes have trouble stringing coherent sentences together (probably why they are accused of being bots) and many have the same circular talking points and recurring memes (pretty sure they have a conversation flowchart to try and keep themselves on track, much like telemarketers).
Others seem like normal people / typical idealists.
I found the average lemmygrad commenter more engaged and coherent, though. So if that is the bar for this instance, then I suppose hexbear is below it.
Isn’t that how psyops work? Sound generally reasonable and introduce the occasional piece of misinformation, maybe about a war of aggression?
Propaganda, yes. I suspect that in this case many hexbears have been egging each other on for so long in relative isolation that they’ve developed their own back-patting (aka circle-jerk) culture with in-jokes and accepted-facts that don’t make sense to others… those participating in it are probably still quite immature. I just call them on it here and on my alts.
I think that is still worth being exposed to different opinions and having your own accepted-facts challenged, so long as it’s appropriately moderated / doesn’t get out of hand. It sounds like the hexbear admins are fairly active.
It’s not my call in the end, though.
