I apologize since I feel like this has been asked countless times, but I’m still looking for clarification.

Anyway, my current and rather basic setup:

  • Self-hosting Unifi controller 7.1.66 in a jail on TrueNAS-13.0-U2. No cloud features and everything is local.
  • USG-3P
  • USW-24-PoE
  • U6-Pro x2
  • USW-Flex-Mini x2

I’m interested in adding a G4 Doorbell Professional PoE Kit. At the moment I’m not concerned about saving historical recordings and live video is fine. I’ve come to understand that there is no way to self-host Unifi Protect, which is unfortunate. So, can I adopt, manage, and see live video with only the Unifi Protect mobile app? If so, would I be able to view live video through the app remotely off my local network? I installed the app and it seems like it can discover a console, but I believe it’s looking for a Cloud Key device via bluetooth and there is no way to connect to a self-hosted Unifi controller. Is this correct and the only option is to set up a protect device such as a doorbell?

If this is the case, I’ll look into the Cloud Key G2 Plus so I’ll already have the storage to save video from the doorbell or if I add cameras in the future. This will be a minor inconvenience compared to running cat5 to my front door ;)

Thanks!
