Hey everyone, I’m thinking for this one rather than posting a review thread like I normally do, we can just chat.
Has anyone picked it up? If so what are your thoughts so far? If you haven’t picked it up, are you enticed by what you’ve seen in reviews and impressions? Do you have concerns? Also, if anyone here has played the first one, how do you like or dislike the changes they’ve made?
Personally, I am 90% certain I’m gonna pick it up. Tonally it looks hilarious, and gameplaywise it looks very tactical and visceral. I also think the price is just right for me to be a bit impulsive ($40). I’m trying to hype my friend group up to see if we can get a party together. If not, then I’ll probably wait for them to patch the issue with public matchmaking on PS5 before I pick it up.
So what do you all think?
Kinda curious why someone would play this over Deep Rock Galactic. Is it just because it’s new?
They’re very different games. Helldivers 2 is a lot more straightforward.
A lot of people don’t like the light management in DRG, for instance.
Ah okay, so it’s a bit more casual? Would have thought the opposite given the art direction.
The first few difficulties are a cakewalk just like Haz 1-3 of DRG. It escalates to damn near hopeless on difficulty 7-9, even worse than most DD or EDD on DRG.
The sense of camaraderie the game instills in your team is very DRG-ish as well. It’s more approachable in the art style than DRG though since it’s semi-realism over the cell shading-ish look of DRG
I think “approachable” is a more apt term than casual. From what I’ve seen so far it’s easy to start, hard to master. On the surface level it’s a run and gun horde shooter. But a lot of mechanics are well thought out and deep.
Plus being thematically similar to Starship Troopers makes it easier to sell to my friend group because it’s a known quantity that they can understand. Additionally, the heavy PlayStation promotion of it makes it essentially a second party title, so people who trust PS exclusives will likely trust this as well.
It’s third person, it’s not in caves, and half the fight isn’t against the terrain and darkness.
Exactly. Why play it?
+Dramatic airsupport and very friendly fire
