- Brush: Stirling 24mm Synthetic
- Razor: Baili BR179
- Blade: Wilkinson Sword Classic (1)
- Lather: Barrister & Mann - Diamond - Soap
- Post Shave: Spearhead - Seaforth! Heather - Toner
- Post Shave: Goodfellow & Co. - Face Lotion - Kelp & Sea Mineral
Same setup as yesterday, although if you’re very astute you may notice I put the wrong brush yesterday. This Stirling brush is very nice. It’s a softer version of a tuxedo. The Maggard Synthetic gets used a lot at home. I’m not sure which one I prefer but they’re both great synths.
@lemonparty@lemm.ee knows what I mean!
Sunday, February 11, 2024: With Clownshoes on your 5-year old Son’s Bicycle
- Preshave: Proraso Green Preshave
- Brush: Chisel & Hound Blaireau de la République with 24mm G5 Synthetic
- Razor: Dovo Barbarossa Inox
- Lather: Abbate y la Mantia Ishtar
- Postshave: Floid The Genuine
- Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm
So, first impressions of the Dovo Barbarossa, especially for @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social : It’s small; it’s even smaller in your hand than it looks. The first impression was really like wearing clownshoes when riding your son’s bike: It initially feels that it’s not made for someone of your size. Already honing it was kind of strange. And visibility with the razor is not ideal: the blade starts very close to the scales (if you know what I mean), and the hand really gets in the way of seeing the part of the face that you’re trying to shave. So it’s not the “AC-shavette ergonomics, but actually a straight razor” feel I had been hoping for. See also the image below: the Barbarossa sandwiched between the Tedalus Essence (which is the razor whose hand-feel ergonomics I like most) and the Koraat 14.2:
I can’t comment on the Inox vs. carbon steel aspect - this is my first Inox razor. I didn’t have any special impression, in any case.
Now, that being said, with all the awkwardness involved, I still got a nice shave out of it, and I’m looking forward to using it more regularly. Maybe if the cutting edge were 5-10mm longer, and a little bit farther out, it would be the perfect fit for me, but it’s good enough.
Have a nice Sunday! I’m going back to watching Starcraft II in Katowice.
That Dovo razor would be too short for me. If you can find a J.A. Henckels Friodur 472 (or 472½), that’s worth a try as a stainless steel razor. I think the Friodur razors are excellent.
I don’t mind that the edge is short - I just wish the shank was a bit longer. But I guess that’s something I can get used to.
This is interesting! From the pictures, it looks like the Barbarossa is a shortened version of the 41 blade blank, and I like the full 41 a lot.
I wonder whether the geometry will still feel odd after a few shaves. Does the shortened blade allow for east - west passes under the jaw line and the neck like with a DE, or is that still tricky?

I’ve been trying to discern a difference for one and a half years now, and I’m still looking.
Have a nice Sunday!
You too!

I haven’t tried that, but even with a DE, I don’t do east -west passes there (my hair grows not very north -south in this region). I would assume that you if you can do it with a DE, it should be possible with the Barbarossa (it has roughly the same length as a DE blade).
Edit: I guess you’re right wrt the shortened 41.
A Stirling Sunday Shave
- Brush: Stirling Soap Co. Zenith Boar Brush 31mm × 50mm
- Razor: Dovo 41 Inox
- Lather: Stirling Soap Co. Piacenza
- Aftershave: House of Mammoth/Noble Otter/Declaration Grooming Cerberus
- Fragrance: Terre d’Hermès Eau Intense Vétiver
- Talc: Pinaud Clubman Finest Powder
The brush feels broken in. There’s no discernable difference from shave to shave, and I feel like I can make perfect Stirling lather with my eyes closed with it now.
Piacenza++;
Among my favorite Stirling scents. I know that it is an Acqua di Parma Colonia dupe but have not bothered to try Colonia yet.
Can you discern a difference between the Stirneth Boar and the Moar Boar now that the Stirneth Boar is broken in?
@gcgallant @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social
Agreed on Piacenza. I have the AdP Colonia aftershave, and I used to have a decant of the EdP.
The knots feel identical to me. Which one to chose would just be a question of preference re: handle shape IMO

Yeah, I’ve been a little on the fence. I don’t need another brush but like giving Stirling business. Currently, I buy bath soap and coffee from them and will probably stick with that. I figure the boar knots are the same from Zenith’s perspective and that the only differences would be between individual knots.
Right now, it’s an easy decision: the Stirling × Zenith is out of stock 🫠
Yeah, I’m aware. This stopped me from an impulse-buy a while back.

- Razor: Wolfman Razors WR2/WRH2
- Blade: Wilkinson Sword Black (4)

- Toner: Thayers - Lemon - Toner
- Aftershave: Noble Otter - Jack - Aftershave
- Fragrance: Floris of London - Jermyn Street - Eau de Toilette

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.
It has been a dreary day so far here in Maryland. The lightness and brightness of the Jack fragrance was a very nice contrast to that. I really enjoyed it. Great shave today.
What’s up fellow Maryland shaver! It is indeed dreary out, but that makes for a good day to stay inside and watch tv/movies/super bowl/etc.

It does at that!
Sunday, February 11, 2024 - Super Bowl Shave
- Prep: hot shower
- Brush: Yaqi Cashmere Synthetic Shaving Brush, Dandelion Green Handle, 24mm
- Razor: Gillette Flare Tip Superspeed A1 (1955)
- Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (3)
- Lather: Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag - Shaving Soap
- Post Shave: Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag - Aftershave Balm
Even though I’m still a little bitter about my team not making it to the Super Bowl I’m still looking forward to enjoying the game today. So I figured I should use my “manliest” scent to prepare.
Also, in typing this I’m just now realizing the missed opportunity. I should have used my scuttle (ie lather bowl) and created an actual “super bowl” of lather in honor of the big game. Oh well, maybe I’ll remember next year.
