Well that wasn’t what I expected to hear. I’m curious why their heating supplies are falling/failing. Isn’t oil the one thing they actually have an excess of?

That’s the problem with an economy that depends on energy exports when you’re being sanctioned and have a war to fund.

Oil gets too viscose if it gets too cold. It turns into syrup. The other thing is that city central heating is a great system, if it is well maintained. If you lack the ressources and oversight and the system fails it is difficult to get back on track. Worst risk is the pipes in the houses or to the houses freezing. The expanding water will burst them and you need to redo the whole piping. Normally for ground laid pipes in moderate climates it os not an issues as they are laid below the level until which the ground may freezes. But god knows if that was done properly and how deep that needs to be in Siberia.

To roughly paraphrase Bill Whittle: Equal shares of the commune’s cows are the answer, until someone has to get up to milk at 4 am in the winter in Wisconsin.

Please, apply this aphorism to the communal boilers in Moscow’s suburbs. The Telegraph pod says that as of 1-11-24, the heat has been down for about a week and the boilers are “inaccessible”, in the basement of an long-closed arms factory. No one is taking responsibility.

The sad thing is seeing Russians making videos pleading to Putin for help. It’s a weird culturally specific thing like fan death in Korea going back hundreds of years. Russians put all their faith in the strong guy in charge. Like, “if the czar only knew how incompetent his underlings are, he would swoop in and make it all right!” Putin’s underlings don’t care if the Russian people freeze, and neither does Putin. Seems that the people who figure this out get the fuck out, and the belief persists.

Good point. I’ll have to look up “fan death” right now! You owe me a half hour, in which I am supposed to be cleaning the bathroom.

In summary, there is this belief in South Korea that if you leave an electric fan on in a closed room overnight, it can kill you, supposedly by asphyxiation or hypothermia. There is not really a basis for this theory in reality, and it seems that younger Koreans are less likely to believe this theory.

Now that I think about it more, perhaps my next Halloween costume should be a Grim Reaper costume with a fan on my face.

The thing about Russia is, they say something and it is a lie. If you still believe a single word the Russian government says, you weren’t paying attention.

Their trolls are precious, too. I remember, back on the asian ass porn site known as reddit, one smugly said to me „have fun being drafted“. I wonder which one of the blown up carcasses I see on a daily basis he was.

So anything that comes from Russia must be taken the opposite way. I call it the 180 rule. Never fails.

      They lie to insult you.

Can’t wait until they implode, again.

Thats not true. You are judging an entire nation by the single guy. You cant say anything that comes from russia is a lie. Becuz it cant be like that. I agree with you about government, and you are right if you think that the large portion of russian population cant see things clear, but for the sake of god, dont say that about everyone.

I still don’t understand the West’s reluctance to let their donated long range missiles to strike infrastructure in Russian territory. The Russians have shown zero restraint in targeting critical civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. Allow them to even the odds.

Honestly what better are we than Russia if we just start rocketing their shit? Plus so far they’re happy to present their people in broad daylight for targets, no need to kill civilians.

The long range missiles the West are providing are precision strike weapons so the attacks themselves can minimize civilian casualties.

Unlike the Russians, Ukraine won’t use them to target maternity wards or apartment complexes. But an electrical substation that distributes power to the Kremlin? Why not.

Destroying infrastructure will always lead to civilian deaths unless it is a pure military installation. As soon as you destroy just one wrong substation (because your Intel was wrong or whatever) you are killing innocent civilians, even worse if a hospital was hooked up to that sub station

Fair point. It just doesn’t seem fair for Ukraine to not be able to hit back while the Russians strike at will. There needs to be some consequences.

Oh, that’s mostly about thermonuclear war. Much as I support Ukraine, you don’t want to give Vlad the impression he needs to send nukes somewhere and start the Doomsday spiral. It takes some fine balancing. Morally, you are 100% right.

Yes, but let’s do shitting on countries one at time. I’m not saying this is happening here, but it feels like every time someone is talking shit about Russia someone else jumps in with “what about Israel” as an attempt to divert the discussion away from Russia.

I get Isreal also sucks but we’re shitting on Russia here. You can shit on Isreal in the plethora of other threads about the shit Isreal does. You don’t need to pull a Jehovas witness and use every opportunity to talk about Isreal.
