Hi from a Blind audiobook listener.

Hi all! I’m an author. I write Disability focused romance, and books that deal with human relationships including friendship fiction for the MG crowd. I listen to more audiobooks than most Blind people. I read mostly in my genre for work related stuff but my pleasure genres are YA, MG, Fantasy, and a little bit of science fiction. I’ve been pulling away from scifi personally because it’s all becoming to meta for me, especially in this current tech climate we live in.

I used to devalue romance. Like, a lot! Read this for more. https://robertkingett.com/2023/03/03/thank-you-romance-writers/

I always strive to make audio versions of my books and I am very happy to be here!

hey, thank you for posting here! how does cross posting from mastodon to lemmy feel overall?

I very much understand the aversion to science fiction, I agree that it feels less of an escape from reality more and more

@gabe It needs a lot of work personally. For example, I created a very different content warning than what you saw as the title. The first line of our post is the post title, even if we have a very different content warning. This could make creating post titles more difficult than it needs to be but this is an activity pub implementation error on Lemmy side. I think that our content warnings should actually become your post titles and then our body of the posts can just be the post content. Reading is a lot of work as well because we don’t see every post that gets posted to the community. We only see the post that gets upvoted. If no post gets upvoted, we don’t see the post on our end. Regarding reading, I also wish that Lemmy would use our content warnings to display the post title and then we can just expand it and then read the whole entire post without clicking into it. Right now, we need to still click into that lemmy post link in order to read it if it’s longer than one line. Overall, it’s a OK experience but it could be improved a lot using the activity pub specs.

Yeah! It’s clearly visible. It’s just not viewable without an account because its marked as NSFW since that’s literally the only content warning type.

Also, is tweesecake a blind and low vision focused instance? That’s really cool if it is.

Lemmy leaves a lot to be desired for in regards to accessibility. The fact there isn’t alt image text for lemmy right now is extremely annoying.

@gabe Oh! I used a CW over here so that my Mastodon readers could skip a wall of text if they wanted to. In the future, should I refrain from putting a CW on my side? Will it mark everything with a CW as NSFW? I guess that kind of makes sense from a development standpoint but they really did, I think, use some incorrect ActivityPub specs in mismatched places! :) But as to your question, yes. It is one of 2 blindness instances over here. I am on one, but the Dragons Cave is another instance. Both run on Hometown, not vinella Mastodon. While I personally like KBin’s front end better, it doesn’t federate outside of Reddit clones yet, so I’m stuck interacting with Lemmy communities for now!

Yeah, CW’s do mark automatically as NSFW I presume. It’s strange and frustrating.
