Honestly this is the he worst way to make a child stop crying. Threats can cause scars.

I think the problem isn’t the “threat” but the implied “I couldn’t possibly care less why you’re crying”

Yes, it’s invalidation of feelings followed by the infliction of physical violence to make the abuser feel better.

I got hit many times. A few times it was physically a little bit bad, but typically I was more upset that my parents had “turned” on me to the point that they would even want to do such a thing. A lot of it is mentally abusive :(

I would be traumatised by the threat because during these ages it is hard to take something not literally. But yeah, what you said counts in as well.

“At least I never hit you!” “If I did that at your age I’d get beat.” “I got the belt for talking back”

Yeah I wish I had the validity of physical scars, nobody sees the ones words leave.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but soon the sting will pass

But names can dig so many graves, you won’t know where to stand.

hey now, some of our parents at least voted against enshitification.

they didn’t do shit like protest or volunteer, but they taught my bro and I empathy quite well.

I like to blame lead, but does lead poisoning correlate with marked low emotional intelligence? I think, rather, there is a fundamental flaw in the original patriarchal system that led men to develop toddler-level emotional intelligence, and the women just went along with it.

Now that we have wisened up, accept more diversity, and given some power to women, the toddler men are freaking out because they had their special blanket taken away. And one consequence is accumulation of all the resources.

Yes, strongly. Lead exposure, especially in childhood, is known to lower IQ and also decrease empathy.

The other things you mentioned are definitely major factors as well, but yeah all that lead fucked the older generations brains.

Sometimes it feels like my mom is the only boomer that isn’t a giant pile of shit. But, I guess you don’t typically teach special Ed for over 40 years if you’re a bad person.

Hopefully these kids at least have good benefits. Poor little guys gotta start out putting their tooth fairy money in an IRA if they hope to be able to retire by the time they’re 85.

“Where do you think that house is going when they die?”

That depends. Do they have a reverse mortgage?

Mine just hit me and did the best they could out there. I don’t blame them just as I don’t call the latest generation lazy whiners. We’re all doing the best we can in our situation given the options we have.

This is such a shit take. You brought people into this world, you owe them, not the other way around.

The good life is the bare minimum a parent should provide their child.

My parents provided me with a good life. And they used the things that causes global warming to do so, as do you while posting the internet.

They brought me to school when it rained with their car. Bought a color tv, vcr and Nintendo to keep me entertained. We went on holidays during summer with the car or a plane. We went to see car races, went karting. We did boat trips. And I enjoyed every bit of it.

Everyone blaming that generation for global warming. While their survival chances were uplifted times 100 because of hygiene. Clean clothes, warm houses, safe and dry traveling. Electronicss for learning. 1/3 of the people complaining about them causing global warming wouldn’t even survived or be here to complain about it if that generation didn’t use the tools at their disposal.

Everyone thinking that generation caused it and they themselves did not benefit from it are just hypocrites.

That said, we should try and minimize global warming.

Nobody’s blaming previous generations for causing climate change before it became widely known that it was a problem. We blame them (or the ones a majority of them elected, to be precise) for fighting tooth and nail to avoid doing anything once it became clear how big of a problem it is.

Come on, all of this existed before the shit generation was even born, you could argue that they distributed these wonders, but they did it while destroying the fucking planet for a economic gain. Mass producing these things while not fucking up WAS possible.

I don’t have a problem with boomers admitting that they fucked up. But what I have a problem with is them still doubling down and tripling down with the same crap even though we know it’s not sustainable.

With that said, you can have a good quality of life without fucking up the planet. A good life can be had without a vcr, or streaming services or many of the modern amenities that we use everyday.

We could use a lot less and be happier, but this goes against the current capitalism system led by old men. So yeah, I blame that generation because they refuse to see the reality and change their ways.

Technically you shouldn’t ask to have kids if your shit at taking care of them, but it’s just nature, can’t do shit, just like when Adam ate the apple nobody thinks perhaps he was being an irresponsible prick who was overstepping his place in the garden.
