Been with my wife for 8 years now. She is from a Sicilian New Jersey family where they like to tote themselves as a big food family, with an ancient handwritten book of passed-down family recipes and blee-blah-blah… it’s all just meats and pastas and sauces.

Growing up in this family has caused my wife to be a bit misled about her cooking skills. Everything is overcooked, she uses about 3X the amount of garlic needed in every dish, and she insist on making me comment on how great the food is. I’m a kind husband, I go along with it.

Thankfully she started working a new job a couple years ago where she stays a little later so I now cook most weeknights. I love it. But if she comes home early or it’s the weekend, she acts like, “Everyone is in for a special treat cuz mom is cooking some old family recipe!” In reality, the kids don’t care at all and I’m mildly furious.
