To be fair, losing the ability to dream does kind of suck.
I really think this depends on what you are smoking though. Sativa was my choice for years when I still smoked and it made sleep more difficult on account of the forced stimulation vs passive stimulation of indica.

After decades of use, I am personally and anecdoatally, pretty sure those dreams aren’t lost, but rather encoded to memory differently.
Better than meds, but it’s a double edged sword.
Marijuana does interrupt the REM cycle to a degree, affecting dreams in-turn.
