So I’ve been diagnosed with dysthymia, and have been on various medications for about 13-15 years now. Long story short, it works for the most part, but doesn’t quite go all the way. In other words, I still deal with a great deal of depression every day. Some of it is stress related, and some of it is out of nowhere.

Recently I’ve found a therapist that does ketamine treatments for DRD, and I am hoping to start it soon. I’m still in the intake phase and haven’t yet had my first session with the therapist.

I wanted to ask if anybody else has had experience with ketamine and would be willing to share (good and bad) what it was like during and after treatment.

I had fantastic results with ketamine (specifically Spravato / esketamine)! After the 12-session course, I truly felt like a whole new person.

At the end of the course, the clinic offered to let me continue treatments on a “maintenance” schedule of 1 session every 2 weeks. I declined the offer because the treatments were a little pricey, the clinic was far from home, and my mood felt positive and stable. Unfortunately, over the next 9 months or so, my mood slid all the way back down to where it had been before the ketamine. So, I recently called the clinic and re-enrolled. I’m hoping that it will have the same effect this time and that I can stick around on the maintenance plan for a long time.

As with all such treatments, your mileage may vary in terms of both the size and the duration of the effect. But I highly recommend it if you can afford the time and money! I’m on my phone and typing is slow, so I won’t add more detail right now; but I’m happy to answer questions, if you have any!
