Hi, Sorry to ask this here, but I have to start somewhere.
I’ve recently become interested in the original trilogy restorations, and I have to admit I’m a bit lost among all the different versions out there: Silver Screen Edition, 4K77 (80 and 83), D+ Projects, Harmy’s Despecialized, and other fan edits. I honestly don’t know where to begin.
As of now, which version would you recommend for the best quality and the one closest to the original theatrical releases?
Thanks for any guidance you can provide!
The one Disney is clearly currently working on. Harmy compared the purposely leaked clips against his project’s best work and it far surpassed it.
But otherwise the 4K77 etc…
Thanks for your input :)
I went with 4K77/80/83 based on what I had read, if you have a look at the site it seems like they had access to original film and even went so far as to have separate versions intended for viewing on a projector or TV
I’ll dig into this, thanks :)
I don’t know much about the restoration projects, but if you’re willing to wait until February, Disney is bringing back the original 1977 cut to theaters. https://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-50th-anniversary-theatrical-release
Not just to theaters. They have purposely leaked clips from an extensive restoration they are in the middle of. It’s likely they’re releasing that after the theater run.
@jedibob5@lemmy.world I mean, they say 2027, and only for A New Hope. I really wish they would work on the other two as well. Anyways, if theaters near me play it, I’ll go for sure. And if what you say is true @roofuskit@lemmy.world, this is very exciting :)
Restored clips from TESB and RotJ have leaked as well, so they’re both being worked on. As for why they haven’t announced it yet, I think they’re dribbling out information between now and the 50th anniversary to gradually drum up excitement.
Being able to watch them 3 in theatres would be a real excitment…
