2 non-existent penalties awarded, 1 stonewall penalty denied. Somebody give me what the ref is smoking.

*2 clear penalties not awarded, 1 of 2 correctly awarded penalties almost overturned by a moronic VAR.

Yeah and people want 4 or 5 penalties called and reds lol. You won and you’re through. Take it and move on.

I know, I’m Greek too, I’m talking to the Dutch supporters. Crying about lasers and wanting 20 pens called and reds.

They’re the better team, do they really need all the officiating help too in order to win? If they were really dominant, they would have scored from open play.

These teams are a lot closer than people think lol, except one won their euro 40 years ago, and the other won theirs 20 years ago.

Are they? Greece were shit in the away game. Lost by a big margin and created next to no chances. Were shit again today. but against a side with like 11 players injured. Creating no chances while needing the win.

Yeah because we’ve won something recently lol

All this yapping yet you can’t close out a tournament in modern football 🤷‍♂️, we have.

Close against the Argentines, but not quite. Close isn’t good enough.

2004 isn’t recent and doesn’t say anything about quality of the teams now. Or recently for that matter.

How embarrassing, we lost against the eventual world champions. You haven’t been good enough to even enter a tournament in almost 10 years. Pipe down

2004 is a lot more recent than the 70s. Germany weren’t fielding 2 different teams in 2004. 21st century against all time greats like CR7, you know, active players.

                  how embarrassing

No, what’s embarrassing is being labelled some footballing super power in the top 10 and being perpetual losers for almost 50 years.

Maybe they’ll give you more pen calls in the tournament for you to win games. We’ll see you there after we beat the Georgians.

It doesn’t matter if you have a better team and rules are rules. But at the and it was a deserved win. Good game though.

And yes those people should fuck off with those laser lights.

the first “non-existant” penalty literally prevented a goal that was being scored because he blew the whistle early

True but unfortunately irrelevant. It was not a penalty and it was also a mistake to blow the whistle that early.

It was a foul by Van Dijk. You don’t get to play advantage if you are the one comitting the foul afaik

The only clear out of the 2 is the tackle on brobbey at the end that was not given. And if the previous one is not given, the game never gets into a situation for the one after to take place anyway

I don’t even know nor care anymore.

We did get those pens because we were in the box so much, it’s amazing none of the shots went in throughout the match.

Still fair play, you’ll make it through the playoffs, if you keep that up.

Really hope some attacking power comes back next time, this really was bad. 4-3-3 after halftime looked good for 15 minutes, but not that convincing otherwise.

Also, how was that last one not a pen? He clearly clips his leg, did he hit the ball a tiny bit or something?

Very hard-fought but imo deserved win in the end if you look at the chances. Definitely not the prettiest match, but thats to be expected when the stakes are this high. Also how was that last moment not a penalty, ref seemed a bit intimated there

Koeman vindt het jammer dat er geen penalty specialisten zijn.

I’m not sure what Koeman was doing in the second half. First half wasn’t exactly totaalvoetbal but we invited the press and had some decent attacks and a missed pen. We didn’t have much control at all in the second half and basically had massive gaps between the lines and attackers on an island. Van de Ven at left back meant a few dangerous possession losses in the build up and made their press much more effective. I some some Steijnbal in the end with us spamming long balls on Brobbey with a hopelessly out of form Bergwijn to his left. He obviously did well to win the penalty and we won in the end but it wasn’t due to great game management.

Still props to the Greek. They kept it quite tight at the back. Just wondering why their two strikers were left out? If they could just materialise some chances, it would have been a way more tight game. They were mostly toothless…

It seemed like the plan was to lock up the back to keep it 0-0, and the bring in the attacking players in the last 10-15 minutes to take advantage of the tired defense.

Shame. Boys played well, and that second pen really shouldn’t have been given IMO after he looked at it on the monitor. Ody deserves to play at the highest level. Ioannidis should’ve squared it to Masouras.

Oh well. There’s still the playoffs to look forward. Dangerous teams over there as well; Kazakhstan, Luxembourg and Georgia are nothing to scoff at and have shown how dangerous they can be in the qualifiers, but I still like our chances. The team has improved lots from the failures of the past few campaigns, and we can only be proud of it. We shall go for it in March 😤

Way I saw it the contact was extremely light by Pavlidis, Dumfries almost fell by himself. I understand why he gave it, putting your arms out like that is practically asking for it, but plays like this were not called penalties countless of times before.

And to not give the other sour guy an interaction, the last VAR check absolutely was a pen, but he probably wouldn’t make it out the field if he did give it lmao

Netherlands played terrible. Greece had to win but played without any strikers? Referee was trying to be the star of the game and VAR was horrid. Lasers on the players from the stands, the pitch quality was a joke. Everything about this was horrible.
