That is a misconception! Star Trek is, in fact, a show about the weirdest chairs you’ve ever seen.

    1. These movable chairs are not safe on a starship which undergoes various dangerous maneuvers
    2. They seem to be designed like bus stop chairs i.e. they encourage you to NOT sit there for long periods.
    3. They were probably nicked from the canteen for quick props
